It's not really a copy - Batman's origin is a direct result of the loss of his parents; the Flash's origin is still in the lab accident. It was the loss of his mother that drove him to dedicate his powers to being a hero.
A constant theme in the epic hero, going back to Greek mythology is that only those who have suffered profound loss have the courage to fight for the protection of strangers. Someone who's suffered no loss may just say "why should I?" and of course someone who is surrounded by loved ones may not want to risk their safety.
To quote "Person of Interest":
"When you find that one person who connects you to the world, you become someone different, someone better. But when that person is taken from you, what do you become then?"
