Stunning

The way this film effortlessly mixes time/dreams/mythology from such an ostensibly simple narrative is borderline genius. Weerasethakul has a weird way of placing the viewer into the exact same headspace as its characters, you start to question what is real and what is fantasy as the lines between reverie and reality become increasingly blurred. It's not a film to understand, but to simply experience, yet it still manages to be incredibly thought provoking in the strangest and most simplistic way. This one is an absolute gem of minimalist and atmospheric cinema and shouldn't be missed, highly recommended.

Saw it tonight. Indescribable. Dense, meaningful, ambiguous, goofy, wonderful.

The color changes, the visit from the princesses, the scene with Jen's leg. Mind blowing stuff.

And the scene where they all stand up in the movie theater. Witchcraft.

They don't stand up at the movie theater, do they? I have seen the bluray version btw.

reply

It's been awhile. Don't they stand to leave at the end of that scene? I'll watch again.

I completely agree with you!

reply

Agreed. I adored the film, (those colours!) although not quite as much as the director's earlier film Tropical Malady.

Cinema is the memory of life.

reply

Good, but I think Weerasethakul has made better films and somewhat I was hoping a little more from this one.
