Oh Dear God

Take a great premise, spend all your budget on wonderful sets, then make an atrocious film that fails to grab the attention or imagination of the viewer.

This is one of the slowest, darkest, most depressing movies I've had the misfortune to see.

The score is laughable - at least in relation to what you are watching on screen it is - and is overly melodramatic.

I wouldn't watch this again if you were to pay me; I mean it.

i really liked it

the score isn't melodramatic at all given that we're witnessing the birth of fascism. the score fits perfectly.

The score is magnificent. You can hear it here:

The critics loved the film and the score, it's at 90 on RottenTomatoes.

Set against the background of the 1919 Paris peace conference that led to the Treaty of Versailles, The Childhood Of A Leader is as relentlessly sombre and compelling as the film’s remarkable, full-volume orchestral soundtrack by musician’s musician Scott Walker.

Brady Corbet's utterly confusing yet compelling CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER very likely has best soundtrack of #Venezia72 (by Scott Walker)

EdGibbs: Deliriously barmy, Brady Corbet's #TheChildhoodOfALeader tops list from past 24 hrs at #venice72 Scott Walker score is a hypnotic riot

I was grabed by this movie after 1 minute watching it. also the score is incredible haunting just and makes the movie even more thrilling.

I don't agree - or maybe I do a little bit. I thought the cinematography was beautiful. There were intense, brilliantly acted scenes. The music was very powerful some of the time but overpowering at others. So lots of stuff I liked, especially the cast, but I did not enjoy the film. It did not hang together for me and I kept thinking if I could only get the metaphor(s) it would start working.
Perhaps it didn't help that some members of the audience laughed at the antics of 'the naughty little boy' - I suspect they were even more adrift than I.
