Probably Not Rising for a 2nd Season

Doesn't look good for another season. Oh well.

I think there's three things that hurt the show.

1. As a whole, Americans don't bake from scratch anymore. They find it too intimidating and would rather spend money buying something pre-made from a grocery store bakery or regular bakery. Top Chef: Just Desserts had the same problem: no interest.

2. Another thing that hurt the show is there was no "drama". Unfortunately, Americans have come to expect drama and conflict with their reality shows, even if it has to be manufactured. Personally, I hate it.

3. The third thing that hurt the show is the behind the scenes goings on between Paul and Marcella. People like gossip but when a guy leaves his wife of several years for a younger woman the public is going to turn against him.

I would actually think #3 would help the show. That right there is drama. People would tune in just to watch the two to see the 'chemistry' and whatnot.

I think the time slot hurt its ratings. The concept of the show is very different than any other current baking/cooking show. For me personally, it felt like cheap production with the tent and overall atmosphere.

Every one of my friends in LA bakes more than they cook so I definitely don't agree with point 1. The stuff you buy at stores nowadays is disgusting!!! Even the top stores have the most revolting cakes. They either have no taste or they are sickeningly over sweet and the processed taste is just gross.

I agree with your second point. Unfortunately people want to see drama with their contestants, which actually annoys me, I'm happy to just watch the competition.

Third point could go either way but in the US on the whole people are pretty puritanical and they can't on the whole usually separate the person from his or her work. I actually love Paul Hollywood as I've watching the UK version of the show. It's not my business what goes on in his personal life and I'm happy to watch him on TV doing his thing. He doesn't owe me any explanation, he owes that to his wife and son, so that is none of my business.

I wish it was coming back for a second season, I guess it's not.

CBS was the wrong place for this show. No one would expect this type of thing on that network. Yes, their core audience skews older but this needed to be on on Food Network or The Cooking Channel. Even Hallmark or Ion would have been a better choice.

I disagree that Americans dont bake. The bakeries in our local grocery stores, not to mention the Super Walmarts and Targets, offer horrendous quality products. Everything tastes like over processed junk or sickeningly sweet trash. I loved the show and Jeff as the host was a delight but the judges need to be replaced. Keep everything else the same and I'm in for a second season.

I'm your Bill Holden in Stalag 17.

Probably right about CBS being the wrong channel. It seems like the idiotic reality shows that prevail are what draw viewers in--this was very specialized. I loved it because I bake from scratch. I had never heard of either judge and I think it could work with new judges. Maybe some really outgoing female host and some snobby French pastry chef. More dissension between the judges could add interest. A third judge to break ties? It would be good to see a female judge that stands up for her opinion more.

I'm really disappointed that it won't be back. My little boy loved this, and I loved watching it with him. Agreeing with all the posters here so far, especially MitchumsGal on her points. Only disagreement is that Americans don't want to bake. i think they do, especially now. The grocery chain processed drek is awful, and people are starting to turn away from that alot more.

One other observation is that the finale was done poorly. In almost every way. the chosen winner made very little sense, as well. The edit we were shown did not bear out this winner, it just didn't. If he was deserving, and he may have been aside from the general dislike till the later episodes when he found humility (and I stress that this is how it appears per his edit), then CBS did a rotten job of telling his story. I also really appreciate the drama-free reality that this competition brought us, but the finale needed more oomph than what we were given.

Jeff Foxworthy was a fantastic host too.

if we want this back, tweet CBS, and use the #getyourbakeon hashtag in case they're still taking metrics of it.
