Thoughts (SPOILERS)

When I was around 19-25 the thought of going off to a place with a couple old pals for a vacation was of course an awesome idea. And I did! But never ever would I or any of us knowingly go to a place that was considered off limits or dangerous. Call us unadventurous or boring, but we were content to simply enjoy where we were. Now I guess they call such unrecommended off the grid trips "Extreme Tourism".

Even if so inclined, I know I would not have gone into a thick jungle without a weapon of some sort. If nothing else a machete to chop through the vegetation! But no these horny youngin's go into an uncharted jungle with just two back packs, wearing short shorts (sure to be a target for every insect), and a almost useless cell phone.

But it is the latter that makes this film slightly, well no, very different. The main idiot, I mean character, is a computer internet programmer who has a new fangled device that allows for facial recognition and for that app to upload new video instantly to accounts he is on! So his video for help, which he thinks no one will see cause reception is so bad, ends up going viral!!

Thanks to this unique twist not only were some saved but a otherwise boring monster-in-the-jungle film made unique.

Agreed the video and reaction to it gave it a unique edge, it was good to see a genuine human reaction and effort to save them rather than the usual conspiracy nonsense which plagues these scenarios

A decent effort on the whole, though most of the kill scenes were *beep* and belonged in a found footage film 

reply

Good point re weapons. I kept wondering when it might occur to one of these idiots to pick up a damned stick.

reply

I agree that the viral video/story picked up by mainstream media/you can't hide your secret now, better act/angle was something new and cool.

I upped it two stars for that! A horror movie ends with "now the world knows." That was nice.

reply

Agreed, although the premise of this movie is far from new it was nice to see a different take on the "exposure" of the creature. As soon as I heard the military guy (i think that was the uncle of the Panamanian friend) say "who else knows about this?" I was like here we go, military is going to go find them and kill the survivors to cover it up. So it was nice to see a change in direction.

reply

Yes the ending was unique but didn't fit the tone of the movie. I actually dropped it a star because of it. Guess I am too old school horror and like my endings ambiguous where everyone dies and the mystery remains.
