The corruption has been known about for many, many years indeed for well over a decade or more-it would always have been viewed as self serving propaganda of the most absurd kind.

I think once people had heard that FIFA provided the majority of financing for this movie, people would have put two and two together.

FIFA was already famous for its corruption, we just needed someone to come out and say it.

I suspect there would be even less interest and the film would have simply disappeared without a trace if it wasn't for the recent scandal. At least the film now seems perversely relevant.

When Qatar was awarded the World Cup four years ago, it was evident that FIFA was just a tad on the corrupt side. In fact, this fllm was intended as a response to the criticism. So no, this isn't just an issue of bad timing.
