Fascinating subject + movie, but where was the sister???

Just saw this last night on the recommendation of my parents and I wasn't disappointed.

As both a Jew, an Israeli and a huge history buff I was fascinated by this story and naturally wanted to learn more about the real Cardinal Lustiger.

I was surprised to learn that he had a sister who was not mentioned once, as far as I can remember, and I saw the movie only last night!

According to most of the biographies of the Cardinal on the web, they mention that he had a sister who converted to Christianity as well, but that's it! Zip, zero, nada, bupkis!

The movie makes no mention of a sister at all, yet he is close with a female cousin who is not mentioned in any of the web biographies and plays a central part in the movie. Was she a real family member? Did the sister die early or otherwise not make for an interesting character?

I guess if I want the whole story, then I'll need to read a book or two, hopefully in English as I don't parley-vous Francais!

I was dissapointed. I thought this film was borderline bad.

I was expecting something a bit more artistic and insightful. Something about the tenets of Christianity clashing with traditional Judaism, but we don't get any of that. And I'm speaking as an atheist here.

Instead we get a narrative that's focused on holocaust deniers in Poland, and the whole nun episode that took place some years back (I barely remember it).

None of the origins of anti-Semitism are addressed. None of the monstrosities of the holocaust are addressed (and it wasn't just Jewish people who suffered, by the way).

None of the deeper reasons in his confession of why this guy changed faiths, nor the implications thereof, are addressed.

It could have been a more historic and profoundly moving film. But it's like the film makers didn't want to challenge religion and all its idiocy, nor make a statement about religion (the good people try to harvest, but the sheer non-sense that modern mythology is).

All they did was create bio-pic that really doesn't go anywhere other than to look at one issue, Auschwitz.
