Did I understand the back story correct?.....She's a stay at home mom but her parents moved to CA to be near them and as a result her mother must work 16 hrs a day to make enough to live there?? Do I have this right? Seems out of whack to me if my facts are correct.

That's what I heard as well. It didn't quite make sense to me unless the grandparents really want to be involved with their granddaughter.
