Show filmed in Puerto Rico and NOT Belize!

Just curious why the hell would they say it was in Belize when the show was done in Puerto Rico?

Why not just say they went to Puerto Rico instead of Belize?

Weird indeed.

Often a screenplay setting is key, but production may not allow for the filming to be exactly in that geographical place. Many films and TV shows that take place somewhere specific are not filmed there. Logistics plays a huge roll in location filming.

Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. It is not a tax haven. Nor does it have a reputation for lawlessness and corruption. Therefore it would be an utterly unsuitable locale given the plot of the show.

OP, you are funny - or naive?? Did you really think that all movies / shows are being filmed where they are set??

reply

Bwahahahaha. .. ikr? Chicago was filmed in Toronto. .. smh....Hollywood lied to us! lol.

And The Martian (2015) was filmed on Earth, not Mars! WTF?!

don't even get me started on lord of the rings

Get this, though. A lot of Game of Thrones is filmed in Croatia. I was like, but ..Westeros??!! They lied to us???!!!

I'm a Belizean, I've only seen the first episode. I must say that they did a pretty ok job of capturing our culture/lifestyle/landscape etc. I found it weird to hear our local music, seeing local drinks (beers etc..). I can see that they at least made an effort :) .

Producers were here filming b-roll footage, and basically they explained it is because of logistics, and our myopic government does not give incentives for film makers in the country.

But there are no coquis in Belize. Plus don't Belizeans that speak Spanish use a different dialect of Spanish then the one heard on the show?

reply

Yes true definitely not Belize, just saying I think that it was an acceptable portrayal of Belize. I wish they would come here if there is a Season 2.

reply

Wow, impressive that you noticed that, but I guess since this will be shown in the US/Canada, on Amazon Prime and Europe on Canal+, the target audience would never pick up on the dialect. My wife is a fluent Spanish speaker who spent years in Central/South America and she didn't even pick up on that.

This is not a real question is it?

You cannot really be this dense can you?

So do you feel better now that a bunch of strangers know that you are so well traveled that you can recognize Puerto Rico?

The same reason a large percentage of shows claiming to be set in the U.S. are filmed in Ontario,Canada and British Columbia, Canada: the cost/tax savings.
