Burgess and Atwater

I know PD is low-key doing the will they/won't they with Burgess and Ruzek, and at first I loved that. But now, especially after last week's episode, I'm wondering why they write the Burgess/Atwater relationship as completely platonic with no romance there at all.

The two clearly care about each other so much and are very close friends, and there was some accidental chemistry between the actors in last week's episode I think, when Atwater came home and thanked her for looking out for his little brother. It just seems that two people who are both attractive, and obviously care so deeply about one another would end up falling in love.

Does anyone else agree?

TBH she was engaged to Ruzek and heavy with Roman. Probably a good idea to not date cops for a while. She probably will start dating Dr. Rhodes or someone.

I do agree actually and wouldn't be surprised if this happened.

They have more chemistry when they're walking past each other she ever had with Ruzek.

i think that atwater and burgess have more of a brother/ sister type vibe than a romantic one

I second this. And add a "please no." She'll have gone through every one of her partners at that point and I'd have concerns for Al's romantic safety.

I think she needs to find someone outside of the workplace. I get they "work long hours" and have a closeness/bond because they get shot at together and are expected to watch each other's back but at some point I'm hoping these work place hook ups will just stop.

But as MSGirl says, she and Atwater seem more like family than relationship material.

No. Two people can have chemistry together and maybe even a little sexual tension without crossing that line.

I've been shipping Burgess and Atwater since day one when they were both patrol cops.

Oh god please no. I have a simple rule with cop shows: the less romatic storylines, the better. We have enough cringeworthy drama with Lindsay+Halstead and Burgess+Ruzek.

If there's one thing I hate with passion, it's shipping characters in cop shows. Let them be friends, let there be platonic love, but please no real romantic relationship. Too bad creators usually listen to the very vocal base of crazy shippers.
