Oraetta's Walk

Has anyone ever seen a person (who wasn't injured or elderly) walk like that?

reply

No, and it bugs the shit out of me. This season is the worst by far.

reply

I agree this season has been the weakest of the bunch. How would you rank the others, best to worst? Here's mine:
1. Season 1
2. Season 3
3. Season 2
4. Season 4

reply

I really liked the last season, so I'd put it above season 2, but the rest is the same.

And that means the actress and the director did a good job. How good would a film or show be if the characters acted just like the actors do off screen?

reply

An unnecessary quirk that doesn't look natural is not the sign of good acting.

reply

It's good acting if that's the way the character is supposed to walk. Oraetta is a very odd character, and her walk is a part of that oddness. Distinguish between the actress and the character. Jessie Buckley doesn't walk that way. But the walk fits the character. If the character's walk annoys you, it's because the character is annoying, as she is intended to be.

reply

That is a logical fallacy in it's purist form. You are asserting a notion to fit the scenario without any reason to besides convenience, but that logic could dismiss every bad acting choice in cinematic history.

reply

That comment is a pedantic jumble of words that you have thrown out simply because you can't think of anything else to say. You're saying that it's a "logical fallacy" to expect an actor to portray the characteristics of a character the way the character is intended to be portrayed because that portrayal "bugs the shit" out of you. Actors are supposed to play the role the way the role is written. The actors, writers, and directors don't give a rat's a*s about what you consider annoying.

reply

You clearly aren't smart enough to decipher my very basic use of english if that statement was too much for you to grasp. Your incorrect use of "pedantic" confirms that. FYI, just so you can avoid looking ignorant in the future, "pedantic" and "jumbled" are practically antonyms, and almost impossible to use together with any significant meaning. Go back to school or quit using 5 dollar words that are beyond your grasp, because it makes you look silly. It definitely confirms that you are beneath my continued engagement.

reply

Yet another conglomeration of words that makes little sense. Your dilemma now is whether to quit while there's just a possibility that you look like an idiot, or venture another feeble attempt at a pithy comment and remove all doubt. Since you can't rely on intellect to make the decision, let's see if you have enough animal instinct to avoid doing further damage to yourself. You might want to ask mommy what she thinks you should do.

reply

No. I was wondering about that. I think she has some sort of defect.

reply

Maybe it's supposed to be a Rainman-like tic? Whatever it is, it seems awfully forced.

reply

Yes it did. Very odd.

One of many problems with this season. A quirk for no reason than to be a quirk is the laziest acting or directing choice to simply try to make a character more interesting, without actually adding any substance.

reply

Maybe she had polio?

reply

Interesting hypothesis. Historical time frame is right and that definitely would've impaired her walking.

reply

Yep, wife asked why she walked funny and I said probably polio since it was a pretty big deal at the time.

reply

Maybe, but how sloppy is it that it's left up to the viewer to determine this major character trait? We could presume a lot of things, but at the end of the day, it's a reasonably young woman in otherwise good health, walking like an idiot for absolutely no discernable reason.

reply

You make a fair point. Seemed like quirkiness for the sake of quirkiness without explanation. How would you rate this season compared to the previous three?

reply

The worse by far. I've really liked them all up to this point.

reply

To be fair, a lot of my problem this season was with Chris Rock. He's a comedy genius, but he shouldn't do drama.

reply

Agreed. He was definitely more Chris Rock than Loy Cannon. Not all comedians can transition to drama. Comedic/Dramatic double threats like Steve Carell (The Big Short) and John C. Reilly (Magnolia) are rare.

reply

This is a minor issue I have with the show. The one that really bothered me is when the bigger Italian brother is dancing across the street for no reason. I'm sure there's more to it than the actors or Noah Hawley saying it'd be cool if this character walks funny or their eyes are always bulging, but all of the quirks start to be a bit much.

reply

Gaetano was so unpredictable that I think I would've pretty much accepted anything he did. Like if he'd walked into every scene doing armpit farts I would've thought...That's Gaetano for you.

He also delivers my favorite line in the series...
You know what's wrong with this country? Your Jesus looks like a lady. And everybody thinks they're gonna be president one day. So nobody do the job they got.
