Why was the ending so stupid ??? (spoilers)

So, the film was shaping up ok, the story was interesting, the characters annoying enough to eagerly anticipate their well-deserved deaths, the cats and Anubis were kinda original monsters... and the then we get this ending...

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED??

The blonde climbs the ladder and is grabbed and taken down, then Anubis is ready to strike at her heart but for no reason he never does (instead waits long enough for her to break free with some sort of sharp object?), then the cats attack him, the girl climbs the ladder (AGAIN) and faints, then Anubis grabs a boy (and the girl again?)... What was all that?

It's like the writers just gave up. They couldn't think of anything remotely interesting or original, so they wrote this crap and called it a day.

I'd give the movie a 7 out of 10, but the stupid ending and the awful CGI (I can't believe a movie of 2014 has so bad CGI) force me to give a score of 5.

How do we know he grabbed the girl? I thought he just took the boy. I'm wondering if I missed something.

Well, the girl was lying there and the boy was standing in front of her when Anubis attacked.

I think the makers intended for the monster to grab the child only, but why wouldn't Anubis grab the girl too? She was an easy victim.

Anubis more than likely grabbed the boy cause he would have a pure heart (being so young). My thoughts

The boy wasn't pure. He was in the process of stealing the girl's camera.

You know what it didn't even register as I watched it lol. I guess I just automatically assumed since he was a kid lol. Now I'm just gonna say wrong place at the wrong time.

When and if you ever watch it again watch when she is grabbed and pulled down the ladder. As she is going down she breaks all the ladders rungs. But as she is re-climbing the ladder the rungs magically are there again.

My thought on the ending is that the woman (who was truly pure of heart) died from her infection. Anubis meanwhile noticed the child and thought "hey, children are normally innocent, maybe he's the pure heart I need." But he didn't know that the kid was a sinful thief and his only hope of escape had just perished. I imagine after the credits, he took the kid back and weighed his heart. The heart was too heavy, and Anubis is STILL trapped in the pyramid.

As I understand, the Pyramid was built to keep that entity trapped.

He needed the pure heart to go home to the stars. But it can do serious damage in the world. Murdering many trying to find his ticket home.

And being a supernatural being, conventional weapons probably wouldn't work.
