Caleb's soul? **Spoilers**

So I may be a little confused about the end of the episode when Miranda's uncle set Caleb's soul free. I may have missed something, so does he keep a token from every group of teenagers that die? That was the Caleb from the first pact right? I guess I just don't understand the token/soul thing.

It seems like the Collins family has been taking locks of hair from each of the victims for quite a long time.

I don't understand it either and yes that was the Caleb from the first pact.

So this Miranda is the same as the past Miranda but this Caleb isn't the same as past Caleb? I don't get it...

I am so confused w/this show - was that the REAL CALEB who was kissing Hannah at the end OR was it the "past Caleb" kissing her; I mean is there 2 Caleb's now? Like WTF is going on ??? I still love my Hanna and Caleb - they are "true soul-mates" in my opinion - I like Miranda, but she doesn't belong w/my Caleb. I know the actor is on Ravenswood now but this whole "soul" thing has me confused. Like WTF did Collins do when he broke that jar w/Caleb's name on it? Please someone explain to me... also Collins said there is a way to bring Miranda back but not the way the "evil pastor" was going to do it. Did Collins mean he can bring back his niece or the "past" Miranda? sorry for all these questions but I'm really not understanding anything. Also, will Liv/Luke's daddy's murder finally be over with since Dylan left a bloody finger print behind in that book? Maybe the mom will finally not be a suspect. It was sad for Liv/Luke to see how their father was actually killed, they broke my heart. Dylan got what he deserved, now that I am happy about; he was pure selfish and evil using Olivia the whole time and also for all the other "bad deeds" he did. STILL CONFUSED ABOUT THE OTHER STUFF THOUGH....

I think it was PRESENT Caleb kissing Hanna, cause of his clothes and memories and all. But I am insanely confused as to the two Calebs.

My best guess is the writers really wanted Miranda and Caleb to be star-crossed lovers but they couldn't take all the rage from the Haleb fans so they came up with a different Caleb for each one of the ladies. Calebs a dime a dozen, get 'em while they're hot! (And, boy, are they XD)

However, this is pretty stupid. Because if PRESENT Miranda is supposed to be the same as PAST Miranda, then how come PRESENT Caleb and PAST Caleb are different people? And why does PRESENT Caleb look the same as PAST Caleb or share his same name? It doesn't make sense for them to be different people now, all of a sudden, after it's been hinted for so long that both him and Miranda have been brought back to life through sacrifice. And, as much as I liked Hanna and Caleb's romance and all, it was pretty sweet that Caleb and Miranda had this supernatural connection. So the extra Caleb feels like a copout and it's making my opinion of the show drop considerably.

I really liked it before, the only thing that made me cringe was the little blonde girl's acting. (And her whole role tbh - "It's the grinder for both of us"? Brr, that line still makes me cringe.) But THIS is just plain dumb. Unless the two Calebs unite into one person somehow, then I'm gonna be very pissed.

I thought it made sense, Caleb I is now a ghost, when he saw Miranda II he thought she was Miranda I, and Miranda II thought he was Caleb II. So they don't know each other, they just think they do.

Ok, typing it out it seems really complicated, but it made sense in my head.

reply

No, I get what you mean but then why did Miranda look like she remembered him? Also, it kind of negates the idea that PRESENT Caleb and Miranda are reincarnations of the past ones. And Collins saying that "the two of them together are stronger than Abbadon" makes me wonder who exactly he meant.

Besides, if PAST Caleb was trapped by the jar then... Where was he trapped? Shouldn't he have been in the house all along, like Miranda was? And where is PAST Miranda in all of this?

So many questions...

Haha so much confusion! From what I gather the ghost Caleb was past Caleb and he recognized Miranda but thought she was past Miranda. Miranda only knows things about him because of those letters they found a couple episodes ago about the original couple.

It is weird that they have the same names though.

An assumption I'm making is that the priest makes Miranda's uncle keep a token of each person in the pact to keep them there for whatever reason.

To address then bringing Miranda back for a moment I thought it was going to involve trading Hanna's life for hers what with the spider crawling towards her in the tub. But they didn't go that direction so I am curious to see what way they will actually bring her back.

reply

I think you're right. I think they retconned that to satisfy the 'shippers. Thinking about the terms of the pact, you really only need one returned soul to throw a monkey wrench into the contract's terms. Apparently that one soul is Miranda's.

reply

Could it be that only Miranda was a reincarnation, and caleb was just simply a descendant of old Caleb? Miranda said she smelled roses after Collins broke the jar. Also, if new Caleb was a reincarnation, then old Caleb's soul would have been what was keeping him alive, so to speak and when the soul was released, he would have died or moved on.

reply

I would kind of hate that idea. I was genuinely confused when we saw Ghost!Caleb because I've been under the impression *our* Caleb is a reincarnation. So now, he's either simply a descendant, or somehow his soul is fractured and only part of him was reborn. (?) That would be an interesting plot device, but I'm not sure if RW could pull that off in a satisfying way.

Well the reason I was thinking descendent rather than reeincarnation is because the point of reincarnation is that the soul moves from life to life, basically. However, old caleb's soul was trapped in the house, so he couldn't have moved onto the next body, new Caleb. However, have we ever seen a lock of hair from old miranda? if not, them she could've been reincarnated if her will was strong enough not to go. or whatever. But also, how dow e know for sure that the old caled we saw was old caleb and not just the evil people faking it, like they did with her parents? Guess we'll have to see until they return, to see how they get out of this mess.
