The girl with the afro can't act.

I find her so bad, ugh. She can't do her lines well. Hopefully she improves as the season progresses.

I love Britne Oldford and everything she's been in, but it feels like her character Remy is purposely annoying or something. And that hair... I have no idea what's going on there.

reply

Lol I had the same issue with the overwhelming bald spot over her forehead. XD Don't know what they were thinking.

reply

Well most of the acting is terrible except for Tyler and Nicole's.

reply

I think she's pretty good. But I've liked her ever since she was in American Horror Story.

Britne Ooldford is actually considered to be a very good actress, and she is probably one of the best ones on this show. However, I do think her afro hairstyle is a little over the top -- its not very becoming on her as she is too small/delicate to carry it well.

reply

That's her natural hair, so your comment comes off as extremely ignorant

reply

I like her. I think she is doing ok. I like the character's chemistry with Luke. One of her eyebrows does annoy me though. The whole time I'm thinking, "Please brush that wild eyebrow!" LOL

reply

Her hair is fine. Considering she keeps it the way it grows out of her head and it's natural, I find it "becoming" of her just fine. If she wanted to change it, she would.

you guys are so mean. not you^ but just the people on these boards!, dont like how eveyone is so mean towards everyone. but i guess everybody has an opinion and the right to say it i guess.

reply

Thank you! That's how her hair looks, she shouldn't change it because other people don't like it. Geez, so tired of people telling women with afros that they need to "do something with their hair."

reply

I said it before... Her hair looks like Sideshow Bob. It distracts me. I liked her on AHS though.

reply

yeah her afro is a little out of control. she should do it like she had it on skins as cadie.

reply

Her hair on skins was obviously a weave. I'm so sick of people saying black women should alter their hair! That's the way it naturally grows!! Why should she change it? Why should she hide her natural ethnic features?

reply

im not saying black women should change their hair, but i just think it looked nicer on skins. and i really dont think it was a weave.

reply

I think her hair looks way better now than it did on Skins. Much more natural looking and fuller.

reply

I think you're overreacting a little. No one's saying black women should change their ethnic features. But we're allowed to express our opinions on the appearance of actors/actresses in context of the characters they play. Its part of their job to look attractive and a number of people believe Remy might look prettier with a different style. This is akin to the same way people comment on white actresses all the time. For example, Jennifer Anniston's hair got remarked upon on a regular basis and she hated it (she to this day cannot stand "the Rachel" her signature hairstyle) but she went with what the show producers and fans liked, which involved straightening and lightening it and wearing in an unwanted high maintenance style.

Now if people said that Britne should change her hairstyle outside the show, I'd be much less tolerant of that - let the girl wear her hair however she feels most happy and confident with on her own time.

reply

If it is "part of their job to look attractive," which I'm not sure it is, I don't think it should be. Their job is to play a character to the best of their ability. We do not need more attractive people on TV, we just need people who look like normal people, whether that be ugly, fat, thin, pretty, etc. Yes some people enjoy looking at attractive actors, and that is fine. But there are also a lot of people who want to see a diverse cast, including races and ethnicities, body types, levels of attractiveness.

reply

In theory, I don't disagree with you. But come on - this is ABC Family, who along with the CW, pretty much don't know how to hire anything other than pretty pretty 20-somethings who can pass for teens to people their casts with.

reply

i actually think she's one of the stronger actresses on the show. and coming from a fan of cw and abcfm shows (so im not just trashing the channels, i like them) i think this show has better acting than at least 70% of what we normally get, not counting the obviously more popular shows like vampire diaries and supernatural.

and FINALLY. ivy973, on the issue of her hair. you made a decent point bringing up the analogy for britne's hair with jennifers, but there is a big difference. people are saying that they don't find her afro attractive. i'd put money that not all of these people are not african american (but of course I can't be sure). for jennifer, her issue was having to cut her own hair. for britne, people are suggesting she get a weave, or "calm down her afro"- essentially relax it. This means she should either braid down her own lovely hair, buy a Malaysian (that's one of the places weave comes from)woman's hair (which can go for $500 a pack), and then sew another woman's (or another race) hair onto her head, in essence, giving viewers the impression that she has the hair a non-black woman. Or, she relax her own hair- by that i mean, put chemicals into her scalp that BURNS THE CURL OUT (look it up-- the product we use to relax our hair DISSOLVES COKE CANS) to make her own hair straight and flowy- again, not typical attributes of a black woman. basically what you're implying (knowingly or not) is that because the american ideal for a beautiful woman has straight (or wavyish, or at the very least CALM) hair- not an afro, britne, being on american tv show should have flowy hair. the problem is this- just because you might find one thing beautiful doesn't mean another culture will. an extreme example would be this- an asian actress is the star of the tv show. however, she has slanted eyes. some fans of the tv show do not like the way her eyes are NATURALLY, and post on a fan board that she should "do something with her eyes. like change them. i liked her eyes much better on that other show, where she taped them down". now you might say that this is an extreme example that would never happen. you'd be wrong. look up julie chen.

basically (because i realize i'm kind of rambling) just because you may not like britne's natural hair (because trust me, that skins hair was a WEAVE), that does not make it any less attractive. yes, popular culture (for primarily white america) says that a straight nose, slim body, perky boobs, and flowing hair are what is beautiful. i mean, consistently, that is what the women ranked most beautiful have- jennifer aniston, angelina jolie, jennifer lawrence, the list goes on and on. but that does not make solange knowles or janelle monet any less beautiful. it just means that there are some people out there who have their one set ideal of beauty, and for someone to be considered attractive, they must check every mark on the box. And in America's history, those ideals have been designed by those in power, who then proceed to impart their beauty rules on the rest of the country. and right now, those in power have decided that a beautiful woman looks like megan fox or reese witherspoon or taylor swift.

I didn't mean to turn this into a dissertation on black hair, and this of course isn't all directed at you ivy! i just started this as a response to your specific example, and it all snowballed from there lol. and i'm not hating on black women who relax or weave their hair- i do both AND braid. in fact, i usually only wear my hair natural in the winter to give it a break (from the CHEMICALZZZZZZZZ)

but. tldr. people think straight hair is pretty because that is what they see on tv. and subliminally, it has been beat into their brains that that is what is most beautiful. but would you tell a 6 year old black girl with an afro that she should "do something with her hair"? would you suggest a weave for her? what if she thinks she's the most beautiful little girl in her class, even prettier than becky with the long blond hair to her butt? is she wrong because you don't think the afro is pretty? comparing the aniston haircut to the afro is HUGELY problematic, for many reasons, on of them being the important history to the hairstyle. i'm sure no one on this board supports skin bleaching, although it happens in places all over the world, by women trying to lighten their skin to acheive someone else's standard of beauty. you would never suggest that britne alter her skin color through use of chemicals. so why suggest she do the EXACT same thing to her hair?

i hope i've kind of informed some of yall about the inherent problems that lie in suggesting a member of an ethnic minority of which you may or may not be a part of alter something about herself to appear more attractive to YOU.

Thank God an intelligent person willing to educate a number of people out there at the risk of backwards, ignorant responses. But I know there are open minded folks out there that will appreciate learning some FACTS for a change! So thanx Hiphopartiz for your lesson for today!!! Couldn't have explained it better myself!
