Too well off.

Don't the Rooneys seem to be entirely too financially comfortable for a family of 6 living on two public school faculty salaries?

Good thing she's got Voltage, because otherwise I would worry about Liv having an adequate college fund left of her Hollywood earnings.

___________

I'd've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids.

reply

Yeah, probably so. But it's TV and TV families/people are always able to afford things that are way above their financial capabilities. Also, they're probably using some of the money from Liv's earnings on Sing it LOUD, Space Werewolves and now the Voltage show. As far as Liv's college, it depends on where she wants to go. If she goes to Wisky then it wouldn't take much of her earnings to do so.

reply

If the parents are using too much of Liv's money to fund their lifestyle they wouldn't be the first stage parents to do so.

But possibly they have other money and don't need any of Liv's money.

Maybe Liv wanted to be a star because one or both of her parents was a star - or a planet at least - when younger and has a lot of money left over from that.

Maybe the father was once professional athlete and has a bunch of money left over from that.

Maybe the family gets money from a trust fund established long ago from one of the girl's great great grandparents who was rich.

Note that the opening shows everyone using the same bathroom in the morning. Note that the girls share a bedroom, Joey and Parker share a bedroom, and the parents probably share a bedroom. When one of the boys wanted a bedroom the mother said if they had an extra one she would use it for her own purposes.

So they live in a three-story victorian house with three bedrooms and one bathroom. That does not seem terribly expensive.

reply

I wouldn't take the intro as proof that the Rooney household only has one bathroom. It's just an intro. A cute way to introduce the show instead of doing the clips from the show intro that many other shows use.

What happens in an intro isn't always an indication of what is canon in he series. For instance, Boy Meets World had one intro where they all jumped into a convertible Mustang that Eric is driving and hit the road. To my knowledge, none of the characters ever owned a convertible Mustang in that series.

reply

That's true. But it is still a fact that there seem to be only three bedrooms in the house.

reply

pretty sure there is 2 bathrooms. In 1 episode Maddie told Pete to use the downstairs bathroom after he coes home from the pastrami place

"Yep.Yep.Yep"

reply

It's probably really a 1.5 bathroom home. The downstairs one probably doesn't have a full tub or shower, just a toilet and sink.

If anyone's ever been to Wisconsin, the cost of living there is actually pretty high and there is very little new construction. High taxes to top it off. But with all of those high costs, I'm assuming salaries are also pretty good. Liv's had some successful movie and television work and Maddie will most likely get a full scholarship to college if she keeps it up, so that's going to help the family in the near future as well. Joey and Parker also show great potential in science and industrial technology, so there may be offers in store for them as well.

I considered that maybe the mother built up a bit of a nestegg as a child psychologist before downgrading to school vice principal, which only came after Liv first went to Hollywood.

But then there are also the major appliances getting blown up, spur of the moment flights across the country, etc. going on as well.

They're hoping you don't consider those things when watching the show.

I think the dad is cooking meth. That's where all the $ is coming from.

Breaking Bad meets Disney...now that, I would love to see!!!

They'd better be sharing a bedroom, or their love life is more screwed up than I thought. 😀😁

I don't know my sister makes over 100k as an elementary teacher so it is possible they make a lot of money. Depends on the district and how well you keep up on your education. The more hours you put into workshops etc the more your salary increases.

reply

Where is it over 100K?! I want to go there!

I went to school at Stevens Point for special education and spent quite a bit of time in the public schools there... I also have friends who teach in Point. The district does not pay its teachers well. Cost of living is cheap, but I'd be surprised if they pay beginning teachers over $38K, even now (for what it's worth, when I began teaching four years ago in the Milwaukee area I made $36K and I remember feeling rich because I was making more than all of my friends who stayed in Point).

reply

The average Vice (Assistant) Principal wage (2013-2014) at Steven's Pt Area Senior High School in Steven's Point, Wisconsin ranged from $75,000 - $95,00/yr (there are three) and a teacher makes about $72,667. So taking the lowest Asst Principal wage, they are making close to $150,000 a year. With him now coaching in college his wage would considerably increase.

reply

Plus most teacher who coach get extra money for coaching. I'm sure a 3 br 1.5 bath house in a small town in Wisconsin can't be that expensive

reply

You're also forgetting the fact that Pete Rooney grew up in Steven's Point, you've got globetrotting grandmother's on Karen's side. They probably don't have to pay for the house, and some of the Sing it Loud, movie money, and other helps out I'm sure as well.

reply

Well, their house seems to only be a 3 bedroom home, considering the twins share a room and the boys share a room. Also, since both parents are public school staff members, they do both get benefits for themselves and the kids. Together, I would probably assume that they make about $80,000-$100,000 a year. Depending on the cost of living where they are, that should be enough to support a family of 6. My parents make about $85,000/year together, and we lived in a 4 bedroom/2.5 bath home. The only times we really struggled financially, was when my dad was between jobs. The cost of living isn't so bad here in Georgia though. As far as my education, my parents didn't pay a penny. I had to make sure that I got scholarships to pay for school. Since Maddie was an athlete, she has her scholarship. Liv has an acting career so if she decides to go to college, she should be able to pay for it. Parker is smart, so he can get an academic scholarship. Joey would be the only one that may need other forms of financial aid.

How much money does Liv make?

https://moviechat.org/movies/tt2794380/posts/58d41df28942060011e240b8

It is possible that Liv has made up to millions of dollars from four seasons of Sing it Loud. Depending on how much of it is saved and invested, the income from Liv's past earnings could add tens of thousands of dollars to the family income each year and still have some left over to add to Liv's investment fund. It all depends on the details of Liv's finances, which of course would never be discussed in a children's show.

As for various large expenses in various episodes, remember that in an episodic and non serialized series most of the episodes should be thought of as happening in alternate universes of their own separate from the alternate universes of other episodes. Thus most of the sudden large expenses of the Rooney family should happen in their separate alternate universes and thus not add up to financial ruin as they might if all episode happen in the same time line one after another.
