Similarities to The Inbetweeners?

Ok I know that Mr Sloane was set in a very different time period and featured characters of a slightly older generation but did anyone else feel that they were watching 'Bigger Boys Inbetweeners'?!!
Jeremy and his friends were all a bit flawed and lacking in whatever social skills existed in the late 60s and I thought that these four could quite easily have been Will and his three mates in a former life!
Another similarity was the liason between Jeremy and Robin which seemed highly unlikely as a non-suited pairing in the same way as Will gets together with Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners.
Then Belinda Stewart-Wilson (Will's Mum) appears in an episode as Jeremy Sloane's original school days crush...
