needs a more diverse cast

The ratings will improve if they bump up the racial diversity in cast members, and have them be part of the core storylines. There should be south asian and east asian characters and Latinos.

There should be more blondes, brunettes and redheads.

Way too male-centric right now.

Real life isn't like that though so it's not unbelievable for me to see the group as it is.. It always seems so contrived when I see a show or movie with a group of friends that consists of an Asian, a Latino, Caucasian, and African American. Not that people don't have friends different than themselves but I find in my experience it's unlikely for such a variety in a single group.

Maybe YOUR real life isn't like that, but the thing is, the show was set in Detroit, so it definitely should have been more diverse---more black/Latino/South Asian/Arab-American characters would have made it a hell of a lot more realistic, because that's who you see most of every day in the midtown areas here. Anyway, to be honest, the show sucked, it was never even that funny, not even with the doing the show live gimmick. Not surprised it was canceled at all.

I like that there's a core Sunny style cast. That works great. But in my opinion, the bar needs some regular patrons, Cheers style. You could easily diversify things that way.

That's what Shelly and Bersky are - regular patrons/friends.

I actually think they do a decent job at bringing diversity into the bar compared to other shows, they even have justin dating a black girl now, even though hell end up with candace which I dont mind bc I think they will be cute together, they bring other races into the bar as patrons, and justins ex was dating an Asian guy.

Danny's sister is dating a Latino.

Shelly well hes the token.

The one guy definitely looks Jewish...

uhm...

Their Foreign Gay guy...

thats pretty diverse to me.

reply

I agree, especially being set in Detroit. While Candace is sweet I like the new girl (Lauren) and her dad the
"angry judge" - I think it adds some flavor to the show.

How about the fact that 99.9% of the women on the show all have the exact same figure and all dress the same.

Thin/lean body, long wavy hair (it seriously looks like they all got their hair done by the same person, who does that much to their hair to just go drink at a neighborhood bar??), tight jeans and I've yet to see a woman walk into Black Eyes that wasn't wearing high heels. Even Candace (who is constantly on her feet) wears high heeled boots.

It makes it look like the casting people are churning out Hollywood pretty, thin actresses that are coming out of a machine from a factory.

reply

? There are what two main women on the show and one of them is not that thin/lean. Sure they are both white. Pretty much every other female on the show are the random folks like the elderly women from the retirement home and other random patrons.

I wouldn't even say that the two women on the show have the same style. It's very different. Maybe they are both living in modern times and buying modern cloths... but the style each has are quite different.

As for women wearing high heals to go to a neighborhood bar... um... I haven't taken an accounting or anything of the matter but doesn't that fall in with reality a little? I mean why do women most often go to bars? Not just to drink but to flirt and whatnot. So why would they show up not looking nice?

reply

I definitely want an Oriental Asian on this show. I think he/she would own Danny and add good mix to the main set.

reply

This show needs a 1/2 asian, 1/4 native American, 1/16 Jewish and 3/32 arab-eskimo-Japanese midget (sorry little person).

Well let's all agree first, that while there's ALWAYS room in ANY sitcom - this one included - to up the diversity, this show isn't entirely lacking in its racial and gender diversity (Brett included). The best character BY FAR on this show is Shelly (in my opinion, but still) and then the adorable nerdy guy, but I forget his name and am not entirely sure where he is from.

One poster mentioned adding an Asian character and I agree. Lauren Tom is awesome in sitcoms and so lovable. And given the show's brand of humor and its use of known faces, Margaret Cho would be hilarious.

There are also so many comedic Hispanic actors that would fit well. And maybe an African American female part.

Problem is, who do you get rid of? It's an ensemble of people who mesh so well. What ya gonna do?
