There isn't a particular year that the film is set in. The clothes are reminiscent of the late 70's, but some of the vehicles are from the 80's. The timeframe was left vague on purpose. All we're supposed to know is that the film takes place in the past, like a fairy tale or folklore.

It would've been a good nod to the original 1977 film if this version took place in 1977.
