Why does this movie deserve 7?

Not saying it's bad but it's pretty generic don't you think? I mean it's generic as virtually nothing new in this movie we've not seen before. Tangled is generic too like other Cinderella stories but Disney makes "Cinderella" an extremely long hair and her "prince" a wanted thief, so there are fresh elements to make another Cinderella story worth watching.

I watched this movie on a video streaming site and genuinely thought it was a TV movie. Jungle Book gets 7.6 while this movie has got 7, it's just unfair

reply

I thought Tangled was a Rapunzel tale...

No tears please, it's a waste of good suffering.

They share some elements, kids movies have similar plot premises. Tangled may not be a typical Cinderella movie but the story is definitely not that unique either.

We've watched from talking dogs to an animal kingdom reflecting human society, then this movie, Disney cashing their check way too easy

Are you using "Cinderella" as a substitute for "fairy tale"? Your posts don't make a whole lot of sense otherwise.

To some degree the familiarity of a tale isn't a problem as long as it's executed well. People still go to see Shakespeare plays, and most of the audience will be pretty familiar with the plot!

No tears please, it's a waste of good suffering.

You of course are entitled to your opinion.
I however found excellent acting and music and I truly enjoyed the story line.
There was uniqueness in the girl who understood both sides of the conflict and also there was interesting character development as the rowdy logger gained respect for Elliot and backed off.
It was great insight by the film makers to show how the boy handled and discovered life in a town.
I like Tangled also.

I don't know why I can't find this movie interesting, to me this is one of those movies to be enjoyed so much as a little kid but it's boring when we grow up

reply

Yes, it's very unoriginal (except for the dragon having fur and behaving like a dog).

But I found it sweet, inspiring and hopeful. And that's how I think kids movies should be. So I think, while not great nor original, it does deserve a 7.

That said, it won't stay a 7. Movies also have a higher mark when they come out. I expect it will drop to a 6,5-6,8.

Also, I don't know about you, but as for me, I stopped comparing movie ratings long ago. It's way too difficult to manage scores (as it giving a subjective mark based on a million things different for each person isn't already) when you have the same scale for Frozen and Saw.

reply

You called it, it's now a 6.8.

I like that boulder. That is a nice boulder.
