Broken Tooth

So how did Eliot break his left tooth? Was it explained in the book or the first film? Did I blink the wrong place in this film?

The tooth matched up with a scar on his muzzle - probably had a bad experience with a bear in his youth

reply

That scar was far too big for a bear, and was only one scar-line, not the multiple parallel slashes a bear claw would make. And it would be tiny on his face, even if he had gotten in a fight with a bear. And quite frankly, no bear on earth would likely have ever attacked something as giant as him to begin with.

When Robert Redford's character was telling the town kids the story of his encounter with the dragon, I was afraid he was going to say he shot him in the face or cut him with his knife. I was really glad to hear that his encounter had also been a friendly one of mutual respect.

reply

Yep. I loved the detail of the broken tooth.
Really cool.
Makes you wonder what he's been through in his lifetime - which could be hundreds of years

reply

He had two large scars on his belly as well; probably got into fights with other dragons. Might be part of the reason why he was living alone, maybe he was ousted?

reply

I noticed the other scars too and made me wonder about other dragons like him but meaner!

reply

His landings were always rough. He probably just did a big face-plant on one of them and busted the tooth on a boulder or something.
