Question about the final scene...

I watched this over three different occasions, I kept getting interrupted. I love a movie that gives me insight into a world I've never experienced. Anyhow, I'm trying to understand the last scene. I wish the film would have ended while she was on the swan, but they tacked on a scene after that. Why does she have a new dog that doesn't like her? What happened to the other three? Did she give them away? If so, why did she then adopt another her one. Because it was growling, was it meant to be a canine version of herself? Now that all of her problems were public forum and had been dealt with, was the new growling dog, a reminder of what she still is?

I thought the growling dog at the end was the one she picked up at the pound? The others were adopted out.

reply

It's the same dog she had from the beginning.

I just watched the movie. I think the last scene is necessary because it shows how much her character has grown since the beginning of the movie. She is able to let Gabe go, not focus on her immediate impulses and take care of the dog. She is able to be on her own and be content. She is able to turn off the companionship of the television after 11 years.

Yes, consciously burn that bridge behind her and not regret it.🐭
