Thoughts on the movie

I felt like this movie painted a pretty good picture of what dealing with someone who is Borderline Personality disorder. The supporting cast was super strong and the writing of the film was very good. My problem though is that the film is way too short. I really was hoping for more exploration of the relationship between Alice and Gabe as well as the parents of Alice.

I especially enjoyed the character Gabe and I honestly don't think the movie showed enough of him.

The film also felt very short to me. Why was there so much of it cut down? I think this film could have easily been 2 hours or so and I would've been fine with it.

Whilst critically successful, the film, not unsurprisingly IMO, wasn't a commercial hit by any means. Adding an extra half hour of screen time wouldn't have improved it's commercial viability at all. Perhaps there may end up being some sort of blue ray extended version to look out for.🐭

I would love to see an extended version because this film ended way too abruptly. I was surprised there weren't even deleted scenes in the bonus features, especially because the featurette seems to include footage that didn't make the final cut.

This was an entertaining, strange look at mental illness that would have had a tough time finding its audience regardless of its length or marketing. It produces some uncomfortable laughs amid occasional melodrama, and though it left me confused I was never bored. I will watch Kristen Wiig in anything, but this wasn't quite the ideal vehicle for her. 7/10 stars from me.

I agree with both points. Just saw her recently in the Ben Stiller remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which IMO, suffered because of her lack of screen time, even though she was the "female lead".🐭

I had forgotten she was in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty." I think I'll pass on that for now because it looks like it has too much Ben and too little Kristen.

I think Ben has a lot of credibility as a director and I know the movie is all about "Walter Mitty", but I thought Kristen, overall, was pretty scarce on the ground, which I found disappointing. From memory Virginia Mayo wasn't so hard to find in the original.🐭

I finally caught "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," and I was surprised how much I loved it. I was under the impression that it was a children's film, but really, it's very grown-up (even though it's "only" rated PG). Thanks for recommending it.

I agree that Kristen Wiig is underused in it, as is Shirley MacLaine, but I say that mainly because I'm a big fan of both. Now to seek out the original.
