Having Jennifer Jason Leigh in this? Kind of a bit part for a veteran actress. Same with Joan Cusack. They didn't really add anything to the film. Why waste the money?
Side note: they should rename the disorder "selfish idiots disease".
Because they need work. What else have they been doing lately? They popped in for a couple days and made a paycheck. They're probably friends with the producers/cast.

But why they brought Jennifer Jason Leigh and Joan Cusack is very strange.
They probably did not cost much.
Joan Cusack actually got a good number of laughs and it probably didn't take much time to film her part since the majority of it was set in the control room.
As for Jennifer Jason Leigh, she genuinely was wasted.
I liked Joan Cusack's role in this film and Jennifer jason leigh does look wasted but is good at visualising how most people around Kristens character must be feeling internally.
Like someone said though it's an easy wage for a weeks work.
This isn't that bad of a film at the moment.
I'm halfway through it and one of the main reasons I watched was for Joan cusack.
She's good at picking quirky roles in offbeat films.
