I disagree completely. In fact, other than Randall Park's amazing dual-personality performance, Franco's was my favorite and most laughable reason to watch this movie for the second time just now. As someone else already stated, his character was SUPPOSED to be hammy, muggy, and totally stupid. He was an egotistical tabloid TV interviewer for God's sake. Just listening to some of the stupid crap written for him that came out of his mouth (most of it in front of either the press or those who were a danger to him), watching the multitude of stupid expressions on his face throughout the entire movie, and even his crazy body language was enough reason for me to enjoy this film immensely, even on a second viewing. Of course it was over the top. It was SUPPOSED to be. The entire premise was a joke, his character was a complete fool, and he played it to perfection as far as I'm concerned. And credit is also due to Rogen, whose reactions to Franco's character's big mouth always at the wrong moment were pure gold. And no, I'm not a 15-year-old boy.
