Monica naivete

Watching this drama, it is painful to watch as Monica comes as totally naive. I know that she was only 22 years old, but she is portrayed as immature and childish. Worldly wise she was not. She obviously did not spot the evil glint in Linda Tripp's eyes. Fair play to Monica Lewinsky, as one of the producers for this depiction of this excruciating chapter of her life.

I don't buy the naive story. She was conniving as the rest of them.

Of course when she flashed her thong at the President, she knew what she was doing. However, she genuinely thought that that Clinton loved her and that Linda Tripp her friend. When the combined tsunami of Paula Jones, Ken Starr and the media hit her, she was completely overwhelmed. Bill Clinton threw her under the bus.

I like how everyone blames the woman for getting banged by the POTUS.

Bullshit, OP. Monica’s mom taught her to seek out the most powerful man in the room and suck his cock till his head caved in. There is not a scintilla of “naive” in that tutelage.
Monica was 22 going on 40..

Sheesh. Where do you people come from?

Let's try and keep this thread free of abuse or insults.

Monica may have been infatuated with " the most powerful man in the room" but she was clueless about the wider forces at play. She did not see through Linda Tripp, nor did she believe that constantly going to the White House would one day back fire on her. Monica seemed blissly unaware that Ken Starr was digging into Clinton's past not just White water but also his relationships with women.

By the way, what is your source of your information about Monica re her mother.

reply

What is your source on that claim?

Here’s a news story on Monica’s mom and her influence on her daughter’s values. Note in particular the mother’s proclivity for man-hopping and disdain for telling the truth. I know you are want to see Lewinsky as naive so that this becomes another example of vulnerable young women being harassed and manipulated by powerful older men, but it ain’t so. Naive babes don’t brag to their girlfriends about their “Presidential knee pads.” Gold-diggers do. She went into this with her eyes, purse and mouth wide open. A man in heat is easier to manipulate than Silly Putty, and women know that.

I'm of no doubt that she knew what she was doing in terms of flirting with a married man.

I don't believe that she could possibly be, at 22, aware of exactly what repurcussions could be in play when a national scandal a decade and more in the making involving some of the most powerful people in the country and a media ready to turn on a political party started to unfold and she was somewhat unwittingly in the middle of it all.

The is all pre-internet social media too when global news stories weren't as accessible for people to have an understanding of just how global something can become in days.

I'm not sure she's the caniving perpretator you make out here.

She might have manipulated him to some degree. It's not exactly like it was a masterplan where she got off Scot-free and walked away unharme.

At the same time, I'm not sure she's a particularly brilliant role model that people should look up to. There's merits in some of what she's achieved but the route to that point wasn't great for the old C.V.

I don't think she was thinking rationally. It was clear that she was suffering from a mental condition that is colloquially called losing control of your boundaries (aka co-dependence). She got into a state where she was unable to separate her own needs from his. Basically she was a figure to be pitied at that time, and in need of counseling.
