Luther?

Im a little to young to have seen the original, but after seeing the pilot it reminds me of BBC's Luther in a wheelchair. a detective who shouldn't be on the force, but they keep his around because he is good at his job. hard to work with, who gets to choose who he works with, gets the job done anyway he can even if it means almost breaking the rules

I never thought I'd say this again. I'M GETTING THE PIG!

That summary is pretty much spot-on

Love the old adage "there is nothing new under the sun. Im not saying they ripped off Luther. i have watched enough other cop shows to know that. but maybe because i just caught up on my seasons of Luther, Ironside's Pilot episode seemed so similar.

I agree with OP. From the first promos I thought the actor/his character design looked way too similar. There's no way they weren't "inspired" by Luther.

I agree with the others. "a detective who shouldn't be on the force, but they keep his around because he is good at his job" pretty much describes most cop shows centered around one cop. Heck, any show centered around one character. I'm thinking of "House". A concept hardly introduced by Luther. The only thing really Luther-specific is both main characters are black men.

Except Luther is actually a good show whereas Ironside isn't

Luther (and some other Brit shows) are almost like mini-series running 4-6 hrs. There are 3 seasons, so you could run through it like butter. But if that's too much time for you, so be it.

I might also suggest Sherlock (BBC) as something worthwhile. Your choice.

Were you a fan of Corner Gas (Canadian show)? Kinda brought me near tears when it ended. OK, maybe not "near tears" but I felt something inside me move... coulda been gas.

Watching the pilot, I thought Underwood was very strongly channeling Idris Elba in 'Luther' and Denzel in 'Training Day', acting-wise. Which isn't necessarily a good thing.
