Child actors + adult topics

In the Halloween episode when Russ & Lina are getting their two younger daughters ready to go trick-or-treating Russ mentions the word 'tampon' and the middle daughter, Maya, asks what a tampon is and moments later the youngest asks if they're done talking about tampons. How is more mature topics, subjects, information, and language handled during & after filming when child actors are involved, particularly when they hear things normal kids shouldn't hear and say lines that normal kids shouldn't say? I think Rachel Eggleston is smart & mature enough to understand what tampons are and not to repeat foul language in real life, and maybe many young child actors are too since they can memorize lines, respond to names that aren't their own, and act like a different person, but some of them must repeat in polite company what they've been told to only say on camera.

I'm not saying it is, but language that many people would consider "foul" or inappropriate for little kids to say is often said by child actors while in character. I was just thinking that Maya asking what is a tampons is could be asked by the younger actress, along with other things by child actors. Parents of child actors probably have talks with their kids years earlier than they ever planned on. And writers who intend for the young actors to say these thing must check with parents first and/or know which actor they're writing it for & be familiar with their maturity level & worldliness.

Tampon is an adult word? It's a pain of life, women get periods and need tampons. Grow up Peter Pan.

I was watching a commercial around 4pm involving a women showing how her brand of tampon handled her "heavy flow days" by dipping one in a vial of dark blue water.

It made me think of this post.
