Great ending.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge movie and TV show geek. However, the ending in this movie is one of the most amazing ones I have watched in years. It literally gave me goosebumps. Loved it

Care to elaborate? What was so brilliant about it?

ME TOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Sleeping At Last, 2nd Atlas EP, Atlas: Light is the song.

there was something primal, some chord struck. it makes me want to learn to sign and draw. i felt like i was in love with the brunette and i desperately wished i could be "with" her and friends with him. i was shell shocked for hours after watching the ending a few times.

i pretty much hated the first 5/6 of the movie but the ending bumped my score from a 4 to an 8 which is very rare for me.

ftr im also a movie and show nerd ive prob rated a thousand things on here.

reply

Same thing happened to me. I was going to rate it a 6 at most until the last segment started. I watched that part twice. And I also looked up the song :-)
That was probably the best cinematic experience I've had in a long time.

reply

Hahaha I did the same thing :-)

I know what you mean. The other couples and their stories didn't really hold me but she interpreter scene was hilarious. It actually made me care about that couple. And when we see that the car she got into belonged to the sex offender, I could feel my heart drop about what was potentially about to happen to her, as if she were one of my friends.

I wasn't happy with the ending, I agree the 'Monica & Sam' story was beautiful but everything after that seemed a downer. (SPOILERS) I felt sorry for Phil, and didn't want it to end with him being killed, or wounded, or him being jailed for running over someone. And people may say he was a sex offender who was going to harm Monica, but I disagree. He wasn't hiding his past and was coming to terms with people accepting him. He'd paid his penance and was starting afresh... although saying that, karma is a bitch.

reply

I agree with you and disagree with most others in this thread. I absolutely loved the first 3/4 of the movie, but the ending kinda sucked (according to my preferences), especially with Monica and Sam not getting together.

reply

In my opinion, no.

It seemed clear to me that every instance of Kym Gyngell's character included his taking an opening in the discourse to make his required statement.

In the car, there was a long hang of silence during which we saw him just pausing and looking.

He chose not to make the declaration on this one occasion his counterpart was alone. Surely for a reason.

reply

I agree w/ you to a point. Yes, he was coming to terms w/ people accepting him, and he strove to inform his neighbors about his past. But thats where my agreement w/ you ends. I believe the reason he was killed (presumably) was that he was going to harm Monica hence karma intervening to stop him. It was sad to see because you wanted to see him live up to his turning his life around. But the fact that the opening scene they chose not to show you who was in the car offering Monica help (although most people, im sure, knew who it was). That set up the creep factor making you believe he was going to revert to his old ways.

The ending made the movie, not the actual very end but the skype call segment, that was one of the best romantic scenes in movies what so ever, If the whole movie could keep that level of standard this would be a bomb, but anyway still a good comedy, I liked the sexual fetishes theme, reminded me of Young People *beep* a bit but I find this better.

reply

1st half was hopeless. i think the sex call scene by the dumb graphic designer raised the rating of the movie.

reply

Great from start to finish. Ending was excellent rather than leaving it hanging

reply

I agree, the movie was built from the beginning to reach that end.

If you really think about it, it was a rapist killing another while the expected victim dream about real love never imagining the tragedy just by her side. The tragedy that happened to others in order it would not happen to herself.

What people are able to do to reach this little death? How dumb is society today that stripped all the magic off sex to revert it in just money, a reproductive channel, a hurting machine, a selfish act...

When sex stopped to be a mean to communicate love and caring?

Except for the last couple, nobody over there really cared about one another. When the mute guy give up empty sex and started flerting with the really nice telephonist he did a wise choice. When he did not have the nerve to ask her out, when she turned off the computer I felt sad.

They were connected but she did not want to risk a blind date with a potential pervert just to get a ride with a convicted one.
