The end (spoiler...duh)

Carol asks Peter 'what are you thinking about?' and he answers 'about kids', what does he mean by that? What kids? I can't imagine he's thinking about what happened to Elizabeth, or what he saw when he himself was a child, or his childhood friend who killed himself, his daughter and what happened to her etc, and says this to Carol with a big smile...?
Or maybe they're moving on and there is a kid on the way?

reply

Yeh thought the same... no idea lol. kidS as in plural.. wtf?

reply

I think he meant having kids. I gather it was something they'd disagreed on and he was letting her know he was ready now. I think his daughter kissing him goodbye on the beach was sort of... giving them her blessing.

reply

^^^^This. Absolutely, given her smile.

Kids: All of them

~ himself & his friend as relatively innocent kids who took the heat all those decades; the kid, Elizabeth Valentine, who was raped and killed by the father; the female cop as a kid when her Mom was killed, and of course Evie, who was his Guide into the Underworld and back. And Yes ~ the wife was either already pregnant or ready to be again, so future kids as well.

Agreed.

Like DeepCinema says, Peter has been immersed in awful things happening to children. But his daughter is a reminder that good things can also happen. He and his wife were both in a bad place (she is having horrible nightmares at the beginning of the movie) and now they are starting to be able to move on and think about their future.

I think that's what was intended, but it's hard to believe the couple would be ready for such a thing one year later, unless that final scene happened a long time after the other events. Peter got his closure, but I can't imagine his wife wanting a replacement child, or even getting pregnant readily at her age. This scene was even more divorced from reality than the rest of the film! The writers unthinkingly had a grieving mother happily plan for another child as a tag to show the male protagonist had moved on. Really?

I thought he was rather letting her go.

Fanboy : a person who does not think while watching.

reply

He was saying that he'd like to try again to have a family. She smiled and showed that she was into the idea.

I concur. Peahen78 hit the nail right on the head. However, when movies do that, it's for you to figure out. Maybe next time, huh?
