Top Five vs. Birdman

it wasnt until the film finished that i realized how similar both are. both films had to do with a washed up actor who was in successful franchise films, and now trying to get their career back. anyone else notice this? I thought Birdman was better, but Top Five was the less artistic version of Birdman.

I had the same thought (and just said so in my post).

Good point. Top Five was more accessible to me. Bird Man had the memorable acting, where Top Five was a more satisfying story. Both excellent in their own rights. I was not that big of a Chris Rock acting fan going into this but was impressed on all levels by him here. It really was a trifecta: acting, writing AND directing.

Yeah, I noticed the similarity-though I also found the dynamic between Chris Rock and Rosario Dawson made it similar to Bojack Horseman as well, because their dynamic reminded me of the dynamic between Diane and Bojack.

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

Top Five has pretty much nothing in common with Birdman. Different plots, different kinds of comedy, different drama, different everything. So many films are about washed up actors.

In the showbiz sense, I thought Top Five just seemed more sincere than Birdman. But Birdman is all a heightened reality anyway, so it doesn't really matter. I enjoyed both films, maybe Birdman a little more but I liked how Top Five was less cynical.

I enjoyed Top Five a lot more. Birdman did very little for me.
