Misleading title
This movie had nothing to do with hip hop. I found it odd that the people all off a sudden just named their top five rappers in a couple scenes and that was enough for them to call this movie "Top 5".

shareWhy would the title suggest hip hop anyway? It doesn't suggest anything in particular to me, so it's uninformative rather than misleading.
shareThe movie is called "top 5" as in top 5 rappers..... They had 3 scenes where people talked about their top 5 rappers all of which could have easily been deleted cause they had nothing to do with the plot of the movie. Top 5 is a misleading title.
shareIf you don't live in NY you don't know what the hell Top five means.
Not misleading since most people have no clue it is referring to hip hop.
That's a dumb reply. People all over the world listen to hip hop. Typical New York arrogance.....
shareNo, actually, he/she is on the money with the NY comment. Asking who is your "Top 5" is an NYC standard that east coast peeps are likely to ask you once they meet you. It's their way of prejudging you, or if they should even waste time dealing with you.
shareI just had a discussion about top five rappers a few days ago. This was in Georgia.....
shareNot saying it doesn't happen everywhere, but again, it's an east coast STANDARD that's been going on for years. With the release of this movie, I'm sure the trend will be spreading even more now.
But having said that, I do think it was dumb to name the title of the movie "Top 5," when that had absolutely nothing to do with the movie. It would've made more sense for the characters to name their top 5 comedians.
Hip hop has been worldwide for quite sometime. You must be living in a bubble to think the top 5 rapper conversations are new to any hip hop fans. Hip hop expanded out of NY a loooong time ago.....
shareThe movie's randomness of people suddenly asking "What's your top 5?" seemed to have you puzzled, and is also the basis of you starting this thread. I tried my best to explain to you that it isn't random at all in NYC, and it is a common, every day thing there, where the movie takes place. I also stated how I AGREE with you that it was a dumb title for this movie. However, reading comprehension seems to be a problem for you. So, you have a good night and Happy Easter.

I really thought they were top 5 stand-up comedians.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it misleading. If you thought that this movie was about hip-hop, then you clearly either didn't watch the trailer, or are being willfully ignorant. After reading your responses to other comments on this thread, I can pretty accurately guess which one it is.

I wouldn't say it's a misleading title. I agree it's not the title I would've chosen, but how did it mislead you? Were you expecting Chris Rock to be playing a rapper or something?
shareI kinda agree with OP. The top 5 was odd. I figured the film was about a comedian based on the movie poster before I read the synopsis. I figured top 5 referred to top 5 comedians, but it was actually hip hop. That seemed out of place.
shareThe title has nothing to do with hip hop. Top five is a bonding game that has been around for many years, covering a whole range of subjects not just hip hop, top five movies etc. etc.
It does seem a bit arbitrary... but at least it's IN the movie somewhere... and I don't think titles are that important, anyway.

Hahah! Total disconnect.
