Why do people dislike Hipsters?

I made another thread asking why people call this show "hipster".

Now that I have a better understanding.. I want to ask why people have a problem with hipsters. I don't really get it since I can barely tell who is a hipster and who isn't. Maybe I can't tell who is hipster because I am a hipster myself??? I don't know.

So why do people dislike hipsters?

IMO, right wingers don't like hipsters because they represent hard left leaders, and as for the style, people around 40 recognize the look as it looks quite 80's which is an embarrassing look from that time that Gen x doesn't want to see rehashed and find it ridiculous and don't understand why a younger generation would purposely want to look like that (ie: the ugly huge owl glasses, the return of the cop moustache and the purposeful wearing of bow ties. When people in the 80's looked like that, they didn't know any better and don't understand why these 20 somethings want to look like their parents.
A really big reason is that when hard working blue collar the workers look at hipsters, they see privileged young people who live an upper middle class lifestyle without working for it. They're the type of people who have time to groom themselves meticulously whereas people working hard have time to S,S,S.

These are just a few reasons and I hope it helps, if you are a hipster, to become more aware of how you come across to people.

These are

nope....because they think they're original but in the end are just like every single generation before it. They consider themselves better than everyone else & people can detect that stench of superiority. People rebel against it, even if they are right.

That's what I said. Hipsters are recycling early gen x fashion from the 80's/early 90's. And it's embarrassing fashion at that. Fashion we would rather forget, ie big a$$ed glasses.

reply

I know, right. Fashion looked like that in the 80's because everyone was on drugs.

Well they say that pot is 400% stronger than it was in the 80ès, maybe thatès why people think the ugly 80ès was cool, because their brains are getting super blasted by weed LOL!

Not to mention they always act like they are oppressed or downtrodden or disadvantaged by the government or the rich.

reply

Very true. They pay expensive proves to appear poor but in reality have tons of Daddy's money to spend. That is a douche in a normal community. Also, add on the gentrification of where they're kicking out make blue collared people out of the neighborhoods meant for working class people.

reply

They don't really bother me, but I think they're irritating to most people because there's a perceived elitism about hipsters. Like they're the style police or they're more than a little smug. And that's not exactly an unfair criticism.

I think in general anytime a subculture is very conformist but mistakes that very conformity for individuality then people are going to chafe at that. In a way I see hipsters as the mild-mannered, liberal inverse of these fringe "survivalist" types who think they're seeing a world that the "sheep" are too dumb to see.

Interesting take.
