People are alluding to info that was dropped leading to the ending that made it somewhat obvious what was going on/what was going to happen. I can't think of anything that made the ending TOO obvious, am I missing something?

What I can remember -

A line about the problem not being the church, but the ground itself

A mention that the kids were being sacrificed to the 'eater' under the church.

I guess the bones of the kids could have been a clue.

Otherwise the precise nature of their doom was a surprise to me

SPOILER ALERT...

Basically they ended up in the belly of the beast/creature that lived under the church.

That makes so much sense! Literally just finished watching and felt a bit thick because I wasn't sure what had happened. Now I've read this, the acid and closing walls makes perfect sense. Thanks!

I don't think it obvious what was coming up....until it happened. Then it was obvious, if totally bizarre. My jaw literally dropped.
