How this film is even getting a 6/10 is beyond me, nothing at all happens for the first hour, then about 5 mins out of the next half hour are barely interesting. It's not scary, it's not creepy - it could barely be described as an horror film and yet it has so many 'good' reviews online - do these people get paid to write good reviews. Move along, nothing to see here - just another trashy found footage genre film that cannot even do that right
I loved it, and I have seen alot of found footage films over the years, some good, some absolutely garbage. the fact that this was british made it all the more realistic and shocking.
Not that hard when the total number of votes on here is relatively low.Makes it pretty easy for the makers/stars/friend/family or even just one of them with enough time to make a few accounts up to shill it up.Even a 4 is generous, looking at the amount of 6 and 7's in the votes it makes me wonder if people have actually seen a movie with a real rating of that calibre, they blow this tripe into the weeds...Hopefully as more REAL people see this over the coming months/years and supply real votes, the ranking will drop down to a realistic sub 3, where it belongs!

They must.

What about folks, like myself, who teetered between an 8 and a 7, but ultimately gave it a 7 because the end could have been a little stronger considering the very, very creepy slow burn building up to it.
I watch a lot of found footage, and this was definitely on the higher end of the scale. In particular the acting was a real strong point, and that's unusual for found footage.
Upon repeat viewing, it becomes more clear and actually more creepy. That said, I do still question how reasonable it is that Deacon would continue the path he is on, given what he is seeing
for me it's one of those films that gets creepier and creepier on repeat viewings, you only get pieces of the puzzle, evidently like the visual allusion with the pieces, we only sort of get the corners at the end, some may find it sudden, I certainly agree it felt sudden and I yearned for something different in ending.
But upon rewatch I realized it was alluding to everything so cleverly yet softly and had such a rich background and story that you feel exactly like the priest in the diary who realized what exactly what it was by the time his sanity had finally fully slipped and he become an obedient follower of this deity, you start to realize everything and it becomes richer and denser, and there's pictures in your head being drawn from what you're seeing. Definitely one of my favorite horror flicks.
I dont know how you watch films, but I guess you are texting while watching with the lights on, and the radio playing. If this isnt the case, then you simply dont pay enough attention. Every single one of those stationary camera shots, even of the lodge in the beginning, was terrifyingly creepy. Why? . The shadows, the menacing lighting, the evil eyes glaring in the darkness. Yes, all of the above. These guys know how to make a film
/agree. After watch The Pyramid the other day and being horribly disappointed... watching this one restored my faith in found footage once again. When done right, it can be damn effective.
I though it was effectively creepy but relied on too many jump scares. I was OK with the ending but it reminded me of The Pyramid, not that they ripped it off just a negative association. The scenes from the affixed cameras in the church were the best.
To me it was pretty boring. I agree with the op to a certain extent. It was not 85 minutes of "nothing", but the story is just not that interesting. The ending is ok, nothing more. I've watched "Amber Alert" a few days ago and it was also not very good, one of the main characters is annoying as *beep*, but at least it kept me wondering what was going to happen. This one I just didn't care.

So how many FF films do you watch? I can't imagine very many or else you would have seen many more that even you would have to think is worse than this one.
Devil's Due wasn't that bad at all. It was nothing spectacularly original, but it told its story well enough.
This film was pretty decent too. The ending took too long to get to its point, then rushed too fast. But it was acted well, and you got to know the characters. A good thing in FF films.
Want to see a lousy found footage film? Watch Devil's Backbone, Texas. A horrid time-waster.
I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus. Didn't he discover America? Penfold, shush.
