i love the original movie series, but

what the hell is up with the new cast?!
they made angelique younger and juffrey even older?! plus he is so ugly, and so is her other love! how sad!
i was eagerly waiting for a reboot for this series, didn't even know this one was in the works, i was excited to discover it but.. eeck! doubt the direction they are taking with the cast is gonna give them 4 more sequels like the original series. perhaps an american reboot will once make it better.

doubt it.

At the beginning of the series, she was supposed to be 17 and he was 29, right? And the actor who now plays Jeoffrey is 63 years old! I agree - what the hell???

reply

Its mistcast yes.

who saw the film by now?

reply

hell...yea he is too old..so was Nicholas btw
severe plot changes..
just in 30 mins through the movie.. listen
Peyrac gained gold from ore not sand
the conspiracy was revealed later by a spy of Conde not by confession
her brother was a taboo in the family but invoked her dreams leaving for America..with other children, as a leader - he was just couple years older not a mature man
she was caught with Nicholas on her wedding night (BY PROXY) not before

and all this is only after 30 mins of this trash!

The Angélique movies from the 60's had a beautiful actress playing Angélique. Couldn't they find a prettier French actress for the role?
Gérard Lanvin was the only highlight in the movie.
And the hommage to Michel Magne's unforgettable 60's score was lovely.

This remake is very odd. So many questions arise.
Why did Angélique get married to Joffrey in man's clothing?
Why did she cut and color her hair black?
In the novel she did NOT stab the farmer when she took her little sons away from them.
The scene when they get the poison and the papers back from the castle is one of the most suspenseful scenes in the 60's version. Here in the remake I felt not the least bit of excitement.

There was one aerial view of a faked castle roof, obviously created with CGI (sp?). Why not film a real castle? The audience can see the difference!

Why they filmed a remake that cannot even come close to the 60's movies is beyond me.
I rated it 1 star.

I think once one has seen the 60's films, it's rather difficult to see this one.

Michèle Mercier and Robert Hossein in the roles of Angélique and Jeoffrey de Peyrac correspondingly were insurpassable (IMHO of course). And they are two characters only. What about Jean Rochefort in the role of Desgrez?

No, I don't think they can repeat such a success!

reply

Exactly my feelings :)!
There was only one actress who could play Angélique in a convincing way and only one actor who was a dashing Joffrey and that was in the mid 1960's.

As a teenager I turned into a big Jean Rochefort fan once I had seen the reruns in 1969 at the German movie theaters.
Later I read everything I could find in the history books on Desgrèz.

Of course I read all 12 novels on Angélique's life by Anne Golon (in the US called Sergeanne Golon).
Was so delighted that Desgrèz shows up once more decades later in one of the last Angélique books which was translated from French into German, but unfortunately never translated into English :(.

I know! The man of my dreams turned sexagenarian! Is France so devoid of sexy men that the director had to mess with my fantasy in such a vile manner?

Joffrey de Peyrac had raven black hair. There was no mention of gray, and no mention of a grizzled beard, either. I hope someone out there makes another remake and casts Richard Armitage.

reply

hahaha wow i'm so up for the richard armitage idea.

Agree!
Also Phillippe(Tomer Sisley) and Nicolas(Mathieu Kassovitz) look exactly the same. They are like twins! Super confusing...
