Room 2442 - in Chinese this sounds like "easy to die, die easily".

It is not very clear why he wants to rent a room in the apartment complex just to kill himself. If he had lived in 2442 as a child it makes more sense, but I don't think that was the case? couldn't he just pick a public spot to do so?

When he hangs himself at the beginning of the move, he has the wristwatch drawn on. That probably means the young man in the morgue is just his dying imagination, since the kid couldn't have grown up so quickly since the watch was drawn.

Your comment on the room number is extremely interesting, thanks for that. Good word play that was lost in translation. I think he probably repeatedly drew the wristwatch on as a memento and maybe more time had passed between now and his family memories than we thought; "Time draws on" heh heh.
