I don't get all the Duncan hate

I really liked Duncan. I was thrilled when V got back with him at the end of S1. He was a good guy, and when he left I loved that V ended up back with Logan. I like Logan too... I loved them both... just like Veronica I suppose.

Everyone keeps saying how they are glad he didn't make it back, but no one says why they don't like him.

If they do make another movie/TV show, I hope his story comes back into play.
He is probably still on the run with his child, but then again, with his parents millions and the truth about Meg's parents coming to light (surely Lam pursued the matter, it was one of the few times we saw him being a human being. Unless I've forgotten though, I don't think we did ever hear what happened to Meg's family after V recued Meg's sister) the army of lawyers and payoffs they could afford would have made Duncan a free man by now, with custody of his daughter.

What did people do before IMDB???

reply

I adore Duncan, I was quite disappointed that hes just completely ignored in the movie.

You buried me alive you dicks!

reply

Well... I think it was Rob Thomas who pointed out there's no statute of limitations on kidnapping.

That being said, I never cared for Duncan until season 2 when he was with Meg and then baby Lily came along. I always wished for more about him and Lily--and I still like to think that he somehow kept V updated on how they were doing in the nine years pre-movie.

reply

Yeah but it was his baby and with his parents money he could have beat that rap easy especially seeing that his mom and dad got divorced. And it child stealing i guess but the mother was dead doesnt custody automatically go to the father.

Question everything.

reply

True, would like to know more about why this is. Did her parents fight for custody and win?

CiCi: Oh, my bad. I thought you were someone else.
GHostface: That's OK, I am

reply

No there was no custody battle or nothing they told him that they were going to put the baby up for adoption.

Question everything.

reply

Well...he did kidnap a baby. And he hired a hit man to kill his friends father...don't think he'll be appearing for any reunions anytime soon.

"Sure... fine... whatever."

reply

That still annoys me. He killed Aaron and no one knows.

Clark's destiny = Superman, LL & LL.

reply

"That still annoys me. He killed Aaron and no one knows."

I'm sure his parents know since it was thier head of security who did it.

reply

They probably don't even know. Duncan ordered the hit, not his parents. If they were involved then they know.

reply

"They probably don't even know. Duncan ordered the hit, not his parents. If they were involved then they know."

So let get this straight, even though they, the parents, pay him to do all sorts of dirty illegal things, and Duncan does not pay him a dollar, you think he took orders from Duncan. Also, remember how the father reacted when he learned who the real killer was?

reply

He did take the orders from Duncan...it's actually shown in the show. After the hit is carried out, he calls Duncan on a cell phone and says "it's done."

reply

Yes, and do you think it was without the parent's ok?

Any decent head of security would have told them what thier kid wanted him to do.

The perfect murder

Question everything.

reply

Unless a court takes away your parental rights; you cannot kidnap your own child when the other parent is dead.

reply

He's ignored acting all together. He is now a high flying lawyer in a huge New York law firm.

🙉🙊🙈

reply

I love Duncan... Not as much as Logan but he was Veronica's first love and deserves a spot in the movie.

reply

I liked Duncan. I just didn't like the way he was written out or the way his and V's relationship was played in S2. There were echoes of DV not being right for each other any more (his dream with V and Meg for instance) but then in his last episode VD were played as straight-up love. Which I didn't buy at all. But he is infinitely preferable to Piz. He made sense as a boyfriend of V's if only because he was what she wanted before Lily's death changed her. He was a perfect representation of the life V had wanted, still wanted to want but just didn't any more. Unfortunately, TD doesn't act any more, and I would not have been cool with a recast for that character.

That'll put marzipan in your pie plate, bingo!

reply

THIS is what annoys me. They had Veronica very abruptly break up with Logan and get with Duncan. I figured, they wanted a redo and have Duncan be "the one" and didn't want to put any time into writing it...

She and Duncan had their "true love" fortune cookie and their big tearful goodbye. They were separated because of his child, a star-crossed thing.

Flash forward to five episodes later and it's like Duncan never existed. Her knees are back to turning into butter with Logan and it's another "reset," this time Logan is "the one." Even in Veronica's graduation dream when she was back to being the "old" naive, idealist Veronica... she was dreaming of being with Logan (cause he's "the one") and not the guy the naive, idealistic Veronica actually loved.

Quite frankly, I didn't like how abruptly Duncan/Veronica got together, broke up, and how he was sent off to become a nonentity.

reply

Same here. I liked the fortune cookie, true love, first love moments and now it's like none of that ever happened!

reply

I hope that Veronica at least told him to get treated for chlamydia.

reply

Veronica didn't seem particularly broken up about Duncan leaving. I didn't get any impression that it was "true love" and that she was eager to still be with him.

And if she had been so in love with him, why hadn't she hooked up with him immediately after the events of season 1? Instead, she hooked up with Logan during the summer, and then went back to Duncan because Logan turned out to be still too messed up and dysfunctional. Even when she and Duncan were still together in season 2, there were sparks between her and Logan all along.

I didn't get the "star crossed" thing, it seemed to be that the show was choosing to take the easy way out to resolve the love triangle, but it was pretty clear to me she was going to end up with Logan rather than Duncan.

reply

I think he is boring. Logan is so charismatic compared to Duncan, and he's the bad boy so that is always a plus.

reply

I really liked Duncan.. although it felt rushed he was written off in the right way.. bringing him back would just kick up settled dust.. he is off living happily with his daughter.

Maybe if there is a sequel we get to see him again, maybe his daughter is kidnapped or something but either way i'd be happy.. i'd love to see him again but I would be happy if he is left alone. I'd quite like a Lilly flashback season 1 was just the best.

reply

Duncan lost for the same reason Piz lost. There's no drama there--they're both too "good". Veronica belongs "in the mud".

reply

I'm not sure about there not being any drama, from her father accusing his father of murder, the whole thing with them dodging the incest bullet and her being an accessory to him kidnapping and smuggling his child out of the country. If you don't consider that drama, then your life is more interesting than mine and deserves it's own TV series.

Because sponges never have bad days.

reply

Those things are drama, but without that, they are dull.

reply

Duncan wasn't all that good. He had loads of issues. And there was lots of drama with him and Veronica. They just didn't have the chemistry that she and Logan had, and he was uncharismatic compared to Logan.

Boring =/= Good
Lack of chemistry =/= Good relationship with no drama

People tend to confuse these things far too often.

reply

Duncan is boring beyond belief, plus there was never, ever any chemistry between him and Veronica. None. At all. The love/hate relationship with Logan worked because they're both seriously dysfunctional. I mean, really, that's why we love Veronica Mars because we can relate to their dysfunctions. All those emotional hang-ups and teen angst that we've all experienced pop up in this show (minus the murders and what-not). It was always LoVe. Always.

reply

The reason people hate Duncan is because there is no drama in his relationship with Veronica. That does not make for interesting stories. Duncan and Veronica never broke up because they were not compatible. There was always an external reason (potential incest/protecting his daughter). In real life, Duncan was the best guy for her. In TV life, their relationship was boring.

All glory to the Hypnotoad

reply

potential incest is kind of a drama.. especially since he knew and didn't tell her, then slept with her. I didn't like Duncan not because there wasn't much drama, but because he was very boring not only in his relationship with Veronica, but also as an independant character in the show. I hated the fact that they were trying to portray him as the rich, but very humble guy. They were trying to make him perfect, which made him boring. Even with the mental problems he had they somehow managed to make him some kind of a victim in the situation. To add to all of that - absolutely no chemistry with V, I liked both Troy and Leo better. Having said all that, I never HATED him, just disliked him and thought that the show didn't need him in the first place, at least not as a main character.

The only thing maybe that I found good about him was the Duncan-Lilly relationship. I liked the contrast in the family between the good son and the rebelious daughter.

reply

How was he the best guy for her? He had a child with another woman, they had a seriously messed up history, and they also lacked chemistry.

reply

My guess is that if they make a sequel (about the corruption and 'how high' it goes in Neptune).

SPOILERS FOR MOVIE BELOW***

I half expect there to be a scene in the sequel where Keith is punching some guy yelling 'WHO ORDERED THE HIT ON SACHS' and the response is "D...Du... DUNCAN KANE!!!"

Raccoon City is not dead...
It's just playing Possum.
