Yet another pathetic display of the all too common American "justice"

Just wow. Am I the only one who is angry about this situation? Surprised to see only 3 threads about the film here. Every single American citizen should be actively speaking out about this travesty of "justice".

This poor guy is the epitome of being "put through the wringer". At 19 years old unjustly charged, convicted and incarcerated, raped, beaten and tortured for DECADES. Absolutely unbelievable what this man has been forced to endure his entire adult life. And those power mad smug bureaucratic *beep* so casually continuously slapping 16, 20, 500 month continuations to his sentence for merely using a phone and having a fermented bottle of apple juice in his cell?! Pathetic!! Murderers, pedophiles, rapists.. lifelong violent criminals serve less time than this guy - who never even committed a crime in the first place!! Even the very people who kept him behind bars are now speaking out about their very own "mistakes". He should be released immediately and receive compensation for unjust, inhumane, mental and physical abusive treatment.. it's long overdue!!!!

Sadly, this is just another one of the all too common pathetic displays of the greedy egotistic money driven power mad American "justice" system today. Face it, there is no such thing as "justice" in America today. You are guilty until proven innocent.. but once in the system, you can never climb out of it. I am sad and pissed off about it. Our entire society has gone down the toilet. I cant imagine it getting any worse than it already is. It is time for a complete reboot, starting at the top and working our way down.....

DIRECTLY after the lawyer explained that DeFriest had 25 serious disciplinary reports at this last hearing and this time he had two minor ones and then that fat bloated parole board member said that nothing has changed and added more months, THAT was when I started crying and I didn't stop for a long time. I just couldn't stop crying for this man. Everything he witnessed and was put through destroyed pieces of him permanently. 27 years in solitary! That alone could make a totally sane person go completely insane. Prison sanctioned murder squads!? Who wouldn't try to break out!? Especially if you had the skills. I was molested as a kid and my molester was out on bail and living two blocks from me within months! He would wave at me when he drove past me on the street.

I'm 100% in agreement with you! This whole situation is appalling and despicable. In fact it's every possible word for disgusting and wrong!

Absolutely I was outraged...but not surprised. Whenever you need the answer to a question...follow the money. The prison guards need jobs, the beauracratic Parole Board need to justify their jobs and actions AND seem tough on crime.

Prison is a HUGE industry here. Look no further than the recent privatization of many new jails that pop up in small towns. Coincidentally, suddenly there are huge drug busts in these towns and people are arrested with questionable evidence and some with none at all. In one town in Texas, almost half the black population suddenly were arrested in sweeps and given 5 year sentences for first offenses of small amounts of weed, etc...all planned by a racist and vindictive local detective known for his often unethical and sometimes illegal methods. They needed to fill the new jail that the townspeople would be working at. Disgusting.

Thankfully I believe the Feds may have got involved and many were released and the detective may have been arrested and charged with numerous crimes.. I think including murder.

Nobody with a job at the DEA, a local PD or Sherrif's Office, or any number of Federal Agencies want to see the legalization of most drugs. Or lesser sentences for addicts. They need their budgets and jobs. If they have too, they'll find crime where there is none.

And getting ten times the sentence just because it's crack cocaine is silly. It's just baked coke. Same drug and baking soda. Doesn't make sense to me. Just that poorer people use crack as it's cheaper and more available for an everyday user. The war on poverty rages on.

Hang in there Mark!
