No Stephen Russell?
Where's "Garret"?
shareStephen Russell was one of the reasons why Garrett is awesome.
shareI am really missing his awesome voice as I play the game

According to the trivia.
One of the reasons he was not brought back was cos (and I quote) the reason is that the voice actors are required to do there own stunts.
Errr, what?
The voice actor was not brought back as he could not do his own stunts...stunts, for a VOICE ACTOR?
How does that work?
Producer: "OK, great vocal performance there, you really embodied the character and I really want to give you the job as the voice actor but just one question...can you jump out of a burning building, fall several floors onto the back of a horse and charge your way through dozens of guards engaging in hand to hand combat as and where necessary?"
Actor: "Not really, I'm a VOICE ACTOR."
Producer: "Too bad, we'll have to go with that other guy, you know the big stunt guy that can't voice act."
And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.
Sony 16:9
When I saw that, I thought, "god what a lame excuse." Like we have the technology to have one person motion capture and then dub in the voice of another.

That was Square's real excuse I'm the one who added that here on IMDB that's their reason and yes it's lame as I have ever heard.

Yes I seen it online somewhere don't remember where and it was one of the game creators that said it
shareOK, not complete bollocks, it seems...
I recently watched an interview with Orzari, where he speaks about voicing Garrett. The clip shows him 'sneaking' around a studio wearing a Mo-Cap bodysuit and a headset-camera that films his face as he speaks.
So he did supply Mo-Cap of some kind and I'd guess it's probably easier to render and sync in-game if the devs cap his face as he speaks the lines, too.
Orzari said he was pretty knackered at the end of each day, from walking around in 'sneak' pose all the time. No mention of doing stunts, it seems, although if he did have to be so active I'd guess the older Stephen Russell may not have been up for that.
Either way it is still wrong and Stephen Russell should still be Garrett
shareShould be, yes. But for whatever reason, he's not and we just have to deal with this.
As is, we have someone I could warm to and at least accept. I found things started feeling like proper Thief much more toward the end, although I'd have liked a lot more Garrett voiceover.
I just don't get it. Who directed the cutscenes and thought that Russell shouldn't be in it?
Total BS.

Such BS, but thanks for the link. What a snot nozed director. I would have fired his ass, then cast Russel myself.
shareRussell doesn't seem too fussed, so I'm OK with that.
It's technically a different Garrett anyway, sort-of like a distant descendant.
I also like Orzari's voice work and the new game has enough of the original two that it feels like a Thief game, either a really good fan mission or even as a spiritual successor.
Plus - Bow upgrade!!
I suppose. Seriously, I didn't pick up on the descendent of the original Garret thing.
But man, you know no one can voice the original Garret like Russell. He's just got that great voice, and knows that character.
Oh well.
