I thought it was just as good as the first one

I know most people are going to say the original is better, but I personally felt both movies were roughly equal in quality. I only saw the first Trainspotting movie last week though, so it's possible that might be why I think that. Anyone else agree with me?

No.

Agreed. It's seriously good. The original also has the benefit of being a classic for the last 20 years. This literally just came out and it's already equatable.

Its very good

I loved it.

A few people are writing this off as "not as good as the first one" which I really think is a bit careless and lazy. Anyone trying to compare the two are wasting their time. With so many references back to the first this movie more of a Trainspotting 1.5 than it is a Trainspotting 2 and shouldn't be compared side by side.

They were never going to recreate anything near to as ground breaking or original as the first one and any attempt would have been futile. What they have done is provided us with an update of where these fantastic characters are in their lives 20 years on, not forgetting who they are and where they have come from. Yes, there are one 9 two minor snags, but the final result is a movie that sends us all back a few years, gives us 2hrs of joyous fun and heart break catching up with old friends, and another really powerful soundtrack to enjoy for years to come.

I choose life. I choose Trainspotting 2 (1.5).

Its a good film but never as good as the original !

Its a good film but never as great as the original !

It's a great film, but not as great as the first, although I don't think anyone expected it to be either.

I totally agree with you on this too, I just saw the T2 and loved it, I just don't get the all the hate and bad reviews I read online and especially on IMDB?. I think most people just miss the point to compare the sequel to the original. This sequel is about the life of these drug addicts 20 years later, its about the aftermath and where they have arrived in their lives. The scene in the cafe where Renton went on with long dialogue about what "Choose Life" meant to Veranica was what summed up the theme for me, it was one of the best moving scenes of the entire film, because what he said about life and past regrets had a lot to do with Renton and his friends.

I enjoyed it but I don't think it had as much of a plot as the original film and I think it spent too much time trying to recreate scenes/moments from the first film. I did enjoy aspects of it but it just didn't measure up for me (but then I had fond memories of the 90s which is why it just doesn't have the same atmosphere for me).

" (but then I had fond memories of the 90s which is why it just doesn't have the same atmosphere for me)."

Thats it right there. People just have nostalgia and roses coloured glasses for the first film.
No sequel will "shape their lives" the same way the original did .
Basically you are now 20 years older and a boring grown up - so no film will be as exciting as in your youth.
This is the same reason any new Star Wars film is met with hostility , no matter how good it is.

I have to disagree with you, I do think T2 doesn't get enough love as I do think it doesn't let down the side. But it was a tough task to top a film that was one of defining films in British cinema. I loved that Danny Boyle went for a different style and feel for the sequel and didn't go for the same feel of the first. I just don't think it flows as well as the first film and story isn't as gripping. The ending is just like the first one but at least Spud has a great ending.

The film has plenty of highs especially Ewen Bremmer as Spud. Robert Carlyle as Begbie is given some light and shade besides been just a bastard, with his teenage son. McGregor and Lee Miller give two great performances. Would have been nice to have given Kelly McDonald and Shirley Henderson bigger roles. Anjela Nedyalkova gave a good performance. The soundtrack was probably not as era defining as the first one but it still had some great songs on there.

Give it a few years and I think time will be kinder to this film.
