Overrated on IMDB

That this average and workmanlike pair of films should be placed at the same rating level as the utterly sublime The Great Beauty is simply a travesty.

The rating level for this film is suspiciously high, probably based on low exposure, while the rating for the other is probably depressed by the stunningly superficial, lowbrow, 'likeability'-centric opinions almost invariably from US-based reviewers.

I'm not an American but the rankings do not specify their basis of rating.

The rankings do not necessarily have to be based on cinematic craftsmanship. Nor do they necessarily have to be based on likeability.

A movie can be entertaining but lacking artistic merit. A movie can have artistic merit and be boring. Everyone to his own for ratings.

Always enjoyable to hear from the snobs.

I think I agree with you; but I really do wonder how many of the posters actually lived through this period and/or lived in South-East England in 1963! i did and can find nothing in this film worth criticising harshly (except for the music soundtrack which is totally inappropriate on an infinite number of levels).

I thank you for the, for me, fortuitous film recommendation. I am always searching for quality films and living in a film desert called Central Florida - no, I don't live near either the Tampa Bay or St. Pete areas, so please don't get your backs up fellow Floridians - I have a Roku and search, search, search Hulu, Amazon and Netflix. Any other suggestions? No "shoot-em-ups" please, or Hollywood blockbusters.
