Why not hire American actors to play Americans?

Why did the production company hire people from Australia and Scotland to play the main characters, Americans, in Klondike? It makes it hard to understand what they are saying, since they are sort of mangling the English around to sound American. Between the mumbling and the twisting of the accent, its very difficult to understand the main characters in this mini-series. I'm absolutely positive they could have found talented Americans to play these parts.

It's quite simple.

Foreigner shows up at casting call, does "American" accent and impresses American casting director. Since Americans have a built-in American accent, their acting is perceived as inferior since they don't have to work as hard to get the voice down. It doesn't matter who is more believable, it's a wow, we have to sign you because you because clearly it takes more talent to juggle an accent factor.

Well I liked the casting. Liked seeing Tim Roth again.

Well, to be correct they shouldn't have hired Americans or Aussies and Europeans for the roles, they should have hire Canadians since that is where the Yukon is located.

Yes, but the adventurers in the film were supposed to have been from America.

After hearing his thick Scottish accent in interviews, I'm even surprised he managed to sound like he's from Boston.

Haven't watched this show yet, but I can see how it can be distracting. I forgot which movie it was, but Anne Hathaway had a terrible fake English accent. I couldn't focus on the film. Now whenever an actor does a bad fake accent, they've "hathawayed."

This is so heartening to hear....Americans have been butchering British accents for years.

It is mere revenge for Dick Van Dyke and Grounds keeper Willie.

Yes, but what is the point? There are so many Americans here that it makes no sense to hire an English person to mangle the accent. Yes, the same holds true for a British accent since there are so many actors and actresses from England here in the US. But I do have to admit that when I was 7 years old I had no idea Dick Van Dyke was massacring a British accent. Ha, ha!

They didn't hire an English person for the lead.
