The 'Whisperer' ruined this for me

Billy Campbell's constant whispering made me finally stop watching this after the 5th episode. At first I didn't really notice too much but after a while it became so distracting that whenever he was on screen I was waiting for him to start whispering. I was halfway thru the 2nd episode when my wife passed thru the living room and asked what I was watching. Not 5 seconds later she asked "why is that guy whispering?". After that I couldn't see him again without noticing it.

I was wondering "is he doing it so he's not overheard?", "to try to make what he's saying sound more grave and important?", "does he have esophagus cancer?". After a while I didn't care anymore and just stopped watching. The show was "meh" to begin with, but I would have watched more if not for that guy.

Christ! Me too. I watched it and thought the same thing. The whispering annoyed me almost as much as the curious, incessant skepticism from skully in the x-files. I continued watching though I nearly quit. i just couldn't take anymore. I thought it a great show that ended too soon. Despite the confusing second season. Perhaps they'll read this and take a hint. Just in case there's a season 3. Maybe his new immortality will grow him some balls and he'll speak like a man.

I think his whispering was meant for dramatic effect (it was not effective as far as I was concerned). It's interesting you bring up Scully because part of the 2016 new X-Files episodes that I disliked was Scully talking in a whispery voice, which I think was "meant" to be for dramatic effect, but I just wanted her to talk in a normal voice (She may have had laryngitis for filming one episode, but not for all 6).
