The Bad Lieutenant from a French Catholic-Existentialist POV

Like Abel Ferrera's Bad Lieutenant, where Harvey Keitel descends into a sewer of sin only to emerge with some kind of redemption through his Catholic faith, here Ferrera takes the inverse case of a Strauss-Kahn-like figure, who descends into the depths with his depravity but emerges with some kind of philosophical insight into fate and nature and the universe that only a French person would understand, given the different schools of faith and thought they are marinated in since childhood. Ferrera tells the tale, as always, matter-of-factly, letting events play out in real time, and letting the audience come to its own conclusion.
