Replacing bearing

I saw an episode where they were replacing a large bearing on the separator or what ever it's called. They had to burn the bearing out of the housing but all they did was cut the inside ring of the bearing and knock out the rollers the outer ring which is the most difficult to get out without damaging the housing was still in place. The narrator was praising them for removing the bearing without damaging the housing and when they were fitting the new bearing the outer ring conveniently disappeared between takes.
