One interpretation, focused on the role of the therapist [SPOILERS]

First, I'd like to preface this by saying this is just one working interpretation that I had not seen explored much. I think this film can work on many levels, either from a straightforward approach or metaphorically -- and it excels at being intriguing either way you choose to interpret it.

One thing many people seem not to be considering is what role the Ted Danson therapist character has in all this.

So, taking the film at face-value and not metaphorically, did anyone else think of the possibility that the Ted Danson therapist character actually orchestrated the whole thing to end up with Sophie 1? During the opening piano therapy session scenes (assuming it is with Sophie 1 and not actually Sophie 2 during rehearsal), the Danson character seems a little intimate with Sophie 1 when showing her how to play the notes in synch, and gives her a kind of trailing glance. After Ethan 2 dies, and Ethan 1 leaves with (presumably) Sophie 2 in the car, that leaves Sophie 1 standing there to do what exactly? Perhaps to re-unite with the Danson character?

And, perhaps if exploring the film from a metaphorical angle, could the death of Ethan 2 and the remaining "split" personality of Sophie's 1 & 2 imply that Sophie is having an affair with the Ted Danson character on the side, and simply showing the Ethan 1 character a more sunny appearance while the other part of her persona remains with Danson at the retreat?

But why do you think E2 died?

Also, Teds plan involved his "girlfriend" have sexy time with E2? Well, I cannot dismiss it but I see little to no evidence in the movie to support your idea except perhaps a glance while playing the piano.

Interesting, even I found that little wired at the piano scene.
