A poorly made doc, but Superman Lives might've been interesting

I always thought that the movie was close to shooting when it got cancelled. But they were still working on the script and figuring a lot of it out. It might've been an ok movie. It had to be better than Superman Returns. I don't think it would've been a movie you look back on and think it's one of the best Superman movies of all time. I don't think it would've been anywhere near Batman Forever or Batman & Robin bad though.

It would have been incredibly different that much is for sure. Those ideas about the suit seemed really interesting, I wonder if they'll be sought after for any future Man of Steel/Justice League productions. I imagine Superman is going to die in the Batman vs Superman, so the whole coming back idea is still there.

If they got the look of the suit and the villains right (basically the opposite of Green Lantern) I probably would have loved it. I think the Burton/Cage combo would have made it a great film. But some of those designs looked real dodgy and that can ruin a film in part. I liked some of those ideas Cage threw around when he was talking about how to portray Kent.

so brainiac as a spider head and a giant floating skull full of weird creatures seem good to you?
wtf are you kidding me?

reply

The skull ship was pretty cool. No one said anything about the floating head in Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Brainiac as a spider thing was an odd choice, but who knows. They might've changed it as they went along. They were still working things out.

Superman Lives wasn't going to be the best superhero movie of all-time. It wasn't even going to be the best Superman movie. But I think it wouldn't have been as bad as Superman 4 or the Schumacher Batman movies or even comic book movies like Steel or Tank Girl. I think it would've been entertaining and maybe fun. I don't think it would've been a disaster.

reply

well, yeah it would have certainly been interesting in just how weird it was.
Ill give you that lol

I personally think the movie would have at worst got a mixed reaction at best been a surprise hit. I think at the time comic book fans still thought they wanted the classic superman and would have bitched that it looked/played nothing like the Reeves movies, without foresight you don't see that Superman Returns just doesn't work. While I think alot like Burton' Batman films, he would have taken alot of liberality's but I also think the core of who the character would have been dead on.

I think cinema fans/Burton fans would have loved it. I really liked they way he was pitching superman as a loner. That's something that wasn't really explored at that point in time. The ideas of clarks struggle to identify who he really is in the universe would have been great in the hands of Burton.

I think it would have made between 250-400 million on a 300m budget(including marketing)

Best part of the movie was all the concept art. Should've shown more and at slower speed (stuff was just passing by the screen, like it's not interesting. IT IS INTERESTING.)

This doc. would've been 200% better, had they actually explained more about the script and maybe re-enacted more, in a sequential fashion. That animated segment with polar bears was funny, I wanted more stuff like that.

As for OP question, I think it could've been a fun movie. Probably not iconic Superman, but definitely something to remember.
