Man of Steel

I actually felt that Man of Steel borrowed a lot from the concepts of Superman Lives after watching this doc. The Kryptonian costumes, the biomechanical Kryptonian landscape, the glyphs on the suits, the suit/cape being a Kryptonian heritage, Kay = Keelor/Keelex, Jor El being a conscious entity on board the Kryptonian outpost ship... AND THE GODDAMN SPIDER! You know, when Supes is fighting the World Engine at the other end of the world. Those action shots look very similar to the "Thanagarian Snare Beast" storyboards.

WB definitely liked all these elements of the Superman Lives script; it's almost like they offloaded the entire first half and the Kryptonian mythos onto Man of Steel. And just like how the filmmakers wanted to make a Superman for the 90s, Man of Steel ended up making the Superman for the present age. In essence, Man of Steel IS Superman Lives, IMHO.

Don't forget the codex and the skull ship. I think that Snyder and Goyer probably took a look through the mess of Burton's abortive film and found a lot of good stuff in it to use for the new version of Superman.

Sadly, Man of Steel did not include the polar bear attack outside The Fortress of Solitude 

But there was a polar bear outside the scout ship, which was basically the Fortress of Solitude.

 Good observation. Actually, Jon Peters was Executive Producer for Man of Steel, so he may have pushed for all that stuff to be in there.

As soon they started talking about the spider/tentacle monster I immediately thought of the world engine in Man of Steel (which I always thought was stupid and out of place).

I agree with your sentiments entirely though it seems like Snyder and team took a lot from Superman Lives. Even when they talked about Doomsday I saw some of those ideas in Batman V Superman.
