you could make $700, that's like $80 after taxes

and that's not even the worst joke so far this episode!
what a steaming turd.

I agree this show could be the new Seinfeld it is only missing one thing... It isn't funny

Awful episode, awful show. This was my second time tuning in out of curiosity, both times because the show got lucky with the lead-in being a thrilling NFL encounter that went into overtime. The show hasn't moved an inch towards being any more watchable than the last time, IMHO. Lame, predictable, studio-approved punchlines centered around a whiteboy protagonist who is neither personable nor interesting.

I completely disagree. I thought the last two episodes were a huge improvement in both acting and writing.

That's because the standard was set so low from the outset. I took another peek yesterday, and the episode failed to even put a smirk on my face even once. The lamest of punchlines. The most formulaic of story arcs. Nothing unpredictable or interesting or unique. It almost feels like a parody of a cookie-cutter comedy. Given its budget, it's telling that you'll find more laughs from an amateur web series. Most of the actors are trained in improv, yet there is absolutely no feel of improvisation and spontaneity. Scenes can't breath, and the characters' interactions with each other are so forced and mailed in it looks painful. Mulaney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he won't be able to turn this lemon into gold.

Please FOX execs, put this sorry thing out of it's misery.

Is this Meta? Is this Poe? WTH is going on with the script? The writers don't ACTUALLY think this is funny, right? There's better tv out there. This is dreck.

Ps. I now know why the past couple seasons of SNL were so sh***y.

Do these effectively hide my thunder?

reply

Mulaney was one of the best SNL writers. That's a terrible argument.

Being one of the best in arguably the worst era of SNL is like being the best STD to get in Thailand.

I think Mulaney is middle of the pack, can be clever and also derivative, safe and forced.

Great writing is Chappelle Show. Hell even Key and Peele is better than SNL's current style:

LOOK AT US LOOK AT US WERE FUNNY TRY HARD TRY HARD LOOK AT US!!!!! AWKWARD OBNOXIOUS MOMENT!!!! LOOK AT US LOOK AT US TRY HARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
