Anyone a little bummed we didn't get to see "House Painting"?

Just saw a showing of this tonight with my friends before going to work. Been excited for it to come out since seeing the original. Definitely enjoyed it, though I'd say it was a bit weaker in places than the first movie. For one, the overall soundtrack didn't make me *beep* like the first movie. Still, enjoyed the hell out of it.

My only real complaint is this: Why don't we get to see House Painting? For those of you who aren't aware, that's the film made of the first movie's ending. Ashley Oswalt was there, with the other kids haunting Zach and Dylan. Was waiting the whole movie for hers to be shown, and she finally comes forward and says "This one's mine." and Dylan goes "No, I don't want to watch anymore movies."

Well, *beep* you, Dylan. I wanted to watch it.

Now maybe they couldn't get Ethan Hawke back for a cameo and didn't want to use a body double, I dunno. Just felt a bit let down that they teased that one and we didn't get to see it.

Also made me feel like "Dentist Appointment" came out of nowhere, cause the kids keep telling Dylan that there's only one more film to watch, (presumably "House Painting") and yet when he comes across Zach watching a film, it's "Dentist Appointment". Maybe that was an earlier film that Dylan had already seen? Also that one was a bit of a tease, but I've heard it will be on the DVD/Blu-Ray, so not as bad there.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

Yea it definitely would have been nice to see house painting.

We didn't need to see it because we know what happened from part 1... you wanted to see her paint little horses with blood? It would be a waste of time, movies have pacing issues, and spending all that time to show it would have added nothing to the film.

I was gutted, actually. Obviously, we knew what the murder footage would be, but it would have been interesting to see what the pre-murder footage was. Them moving back into the old house, maybe?

I know I wanted to see it.

I would have as well, am surprised Ashley wasn't one of the children in Sinister 2, I guess Bughuul already consumed her soul, although given the fact children were still intact from the 1960s that not a viable explanation. That flaming Dylan spoiled all my fun not wanting to watch it, the little brat lol. I loved this movie much better than the first one and can't wait to see it on DVD

This was a different chain of houses, though. Ashley was not there. She was in the other chain, which the Deputy ended by burning up the Oswalt house before anyone new could move in.

There's several different chains? I don't remember this being said but if it's true that's interesting.

When he meets the Radio Guy, Deputy So-&-So says

DS&S: That's how I've been stopping it. I've been burning the houses down.
Later in the same convo
DS&S: Listen to me. There's another problem. I found another house.
RG: Then burn it down. Break the chain again.
DS&S: I can't. It's not that simple. There's already a family that's living in there...

I think Trevor's only credited as being in the movie because we were probably meant to see 'House Painting' in a longer cut of the film, presumably with body doubles for Ethan Hawke and the mother, but the original boy coming back to film footage for the kill film.

Calm down. Ashley Oswalt doesn't even appear in this movie.

Credited, but not actually in the movie.

Maybe a different cut, as someone else said.

Yeah it seemed unfair to include the film and then not show it

In Southeast Asia we'd call this kind of thing bad karma.

I was kind of under the impression that this was a separate group of kids, or excluding kids that Deputy so-and-so released by breaking the curse with the house burnings. We don't see any of the other films being shown from the first one so I'm guessing this is another group of his in his collection of child chains around the world.

Hey this thread reminded me of something. I forget if they mentioned the boys name but remember the one ghost boy who appeared in Dylan's room? Now that I think about I swear that it looked like the kid who played Trevor from the first movie or is it just me. On the one hand you would think it would be a dumb idea as to why they would cast him as another character if this is true. On the other hand I saw the movie twice and did not notice it as being the same kid.

I am wondering if the chain is ever broken. If someone where to buy the Oswalt property and build a new house there, would it start back up? Then we would see House Painting, along with the rest from the first movie. I have feeling it's not the house itself but the land after the Bagul moves in to the house. Ham radio gave coordinates. Another question is the chain stopped if people without kids move in until they move out?

This is how he has survived in the movie mythos for so long. People tear down and rebuild all the time and not to mention how many acient buildings crumbled that people built on along with huts and tps and holes.
